Commercial Description:
Rader Ambrée is the subtle aromatization of a beer brewed in the ancient-way, re-fermented in its bottle, with a distillate of grain which has undergone a prolonged ageing process in oak casks. The primary fermentation is made with the same selected grains for the mash tubbing and the distillate. The distillate, aged in oak casks, is then added to the mash tub just before the re-fermentation in the bottle.

(Bottle 33 cl) Golden, very hazy with a full and frothy head that leaves a pretty lacework. Surprisingly sweet with no bitterness to speak of. And very, very alcoholic. Spicy, obvious notes of juniper/genever, but not bad for a beer/alcohol mix. 160601

Amber color with a big cloudy head. Aroma has lots of sweetish yeast, wheat and lemon. Medium-bodied. Woody oaky flavor dominates flavor, then sweet fruity yeast. Hops and alcohol come in the finish. Personal and quite enjoyable.

Very slightly hazy copper/amber colour with large white head - good lacing. Fruity, alcoholic, malty aroma. Taste is gin, sweet and malt. Warming in a gin way; medium mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Interesting.

Bottled. Slightly murky brown colour. Medium, foamy head, which is quite lacey. Caramelly, malty aroma. No genever aroma, yet. Good. Tastes caramelly, sweet and malty and ends in a quite bitter finish. Juniper is hardly noticeable. Again, good! It´s really a nice ambree, but maybe a bit bland.

Bottled. Sweet malts and gin aroma. Amber color, fine particals floating around, white head, very nice lace. Sweet, malty, gin well present in the flavor but not annoying, light apple, warming and soft. I was expecting much less, not bad at all.

Hmm. That commercial description is incomprehensible... Somewhat shy, husky, grainy aroma with herbal hops, sweet vanilla and some notes of alcohol. Clear blonde body with fine carbonation is topped by a dense, fine-bubbled, white head that recedes slowly to lasting cover with some very nice lacing. Sweet nutty flavours are balanced with herbal and earthy hops with some vanilla and wood-like notes. Alcohol comes to the fore in the finish, then subsides to a floral aftertaste. Medium body with moderate carbonation that is strongly effervescent. Complex and interesting if not quite a show-stopper. Bottle (Bieropholie Dec. 2004).
