Commercial Description:
Rader Ambrée is the subtle aromatization of a beer brewed in the ancient-way, re-fermented in its bottle, with a distillate of grain which has undergone a prolonged ageing process in oak casks. The primary fermentation is made with the same selected grains for the mash tubbing and the distillate. The distillate, aged in oak casks, is then added to the mash tub just before the re-fermentation in the bottle.

11.2 oz. bottle: I had this one while visiting Eulogy in Philly. This one poured a hazy amber color with a small off white head. It left some lacing. There is some alcohol to the nose, as well as some spiciness, apples and a bit of the caramel malt. There was some effervescence on the tongue. The taste is somewhat spicy, with the alcohol mostly hidden. Medium maltiness with some residual sweetness. Decent.

Huge shiny offwhite head. Hazy amber body. Strange thin fruity and herbal aroma. Thin, sharp, vomity alcoholic taste. Dry, sugary vomity aftertaste. Dreadful. Absolutely disgusting. (0.33l bottle from Dorstvlegel, Antwerp. May have been off. BBF was 10/2009.)

Bottle shared with cbkschubert. Pours a golden color with a very nice head. Excellent lacing, about the best I’ve seen. Lots of fruity, citrus aroma, with a slight yeasty smell. When I found out it was a 10.5% alcohol I was surprised. Not much alcohol smell or flavor. Light, creamy, and smooth. Nice beer, very refreshing to the palate.

750 ml bottle via trade with goldtwins - Pours a slightly hazy deep amber color with a two finger thick white head. Awesome, thick lacing. Heavy, fine carbonation. Aroma is light yeast, grain, and esters. Flavor is esters (apple), light yeast and malt. Medium body. Alcohol is well hidden. Slight estery aftertaste. A nice beer. Thanks Larry.

Bottled. Hazy golden. Light pine-aroma. Really sweet and malty; toffee and burnt sugar.

Bottle at Delirium Cafe, Göteborg. Amber color, offwhite head. Sourish, fruity and a bit bitter aroma. Malty flavor, toffee, burnt sugar, some bitterness and a little sourish.

Partly cloudy golden body with lots and lots of particles. Medium short-lived white head. Aroma is floral, alcohol and a fruity notes that I’d describe as pumpkin seeds. Body is pleasantly smooth and oily. Taste is fruity yeast, candied fruits (pears, oranges), thick flower juice and alcohol. Hops are either inexpressive or killed by the alcohol. Sweetness is moderate to high. Pleasant typical Belgium carbonation. I got used to the alcohol fairly quickly and after a few sips I was enjoying the beer. Unfortunately that the Belgian beer scene is filled with similar but inferior strong blonde ales and most of them are just a blip on the Rader Ambrée.

Draft at Taphouse-Queensway. Lightish tea-colored brew with a quiety surrendering white foam head. Just a very light fruity aroma. The flavor is a tad bit more robust, still fruity. Pretty light in body, not unlike a spiced tea. Wonder what the ABV is because it’s so easy to drink (never would’ve guessed 10%). Sweet and sugary Belgian brew. (#2987, 6/23/2007)
