Commercial Description:
Rader Ambrée is the subtle aromatization of a beer brewed in the ancient-way, re-fermented in its bottle, with a distillate of grain which has undergone a prolonged ageing process in oak casks. The primary fermentation is made with the same selected grains for the mash tubbing and the distillate. The distillate, aged in oak casks, is then added to the mash tub just before the re-fermentation in the bottle.

Copper amber with a large white head and hazy masses of floating debris. Rarely have I seen such an ugly beer. It gets a rare 1 for appearance. The aroma is much more promising: honey malt, yeast and alcohol are a heady combination. The taste has sweetness, sour alcohol, dark fruits and a lovely rather basic leathery taste. There’s a little bitterness, but the main impression is malt.

Bottle from case and keg. Amber pour, big beige head. Aroma is a typical BSA. Toffee, yeast, brown sugar and fruit. Flavor is a bit understated with some malty sweetness, wet wood and darker fruits. All in all just average at best.

Pale Yellow with an gentle white head. Whisps of cloud within. Light yeast and stong tropical fruit (pineapple) aromas. Flavour starts sweet and lemony with a yeasty but clean finish, a trace of the baking soday foaminess. A drinkable light Belgian except that it is hiding a 10.5% alcohol content.

Huge shiny offwhite head. Hazy amber body. Strange thin fruity and herbal aroma. Thin, sharp, vomity alcoholic taste. Dry, sugary vomity aftertaste. Dreadful. Absolutely disgusting. (0.33l bottle from Dorstvlegel, Antwerp. May have been off. BBF was 10/2009.)

Light brown and considerable carbonation, a loud pop when the cork was pulled but not a gusher. A simple beer, aroma is malt and alcohol, and the flavor is sweet malt and alcohol. The abv is too high for a beer that doesn’t hide it with flavors or aromas. At $9.50 a bottle, I don’t think Rader will last long in my market.

Bottle marked 06/06/09 thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a large, white head over a hazed golden body. Aroma of lemon, light spice, caramel and brandy. Taste is alcohol, malt, caramel, spiced bread, a bit of oak and corn sweetness. Lively bubbles.

Draft. Golden beer with an off-white head. Light yeasty, light malt aroma. Yeasty, light malt flavor with light spice and light fruity esters. Medium body. Caramel lingers with light yeast and very light playdough.
