Commercial Description:
During a fierce storm on his voyage across the ocean, William Rahr could be heard yelling from the tall masted ship: "Roll on old sea! And when you are done, when the storm clouds have destroyed themselves, we will still be standing and drinking!" Today, we have created the ultimate ale for a voyage such as this: A German-Style IPA - a traditional India Pale Ale with German Influence. Our German-Style IPA is brewed with a blend of all German malts, hops, and yeast. It has a rich maltiness with both floral and spicy hop characteristics. So get ready and hang on - Stormcloud will see you through your roughest seas and straight on to smooth sailing. Editor’s Note: This beer was reconfigured in 2009 with new hops and yeast.

Pours a golden-yellow with a white head. Flowery, citrus aroma. For the split second before the hoppiness of the IPA kicks in... the German influence can be tasted. Perhaps that is the reason I don’t dislike this beer as much as I do most IPAs. 12 oz. bottle.

Truly a terrible brewery. Once again a nasty beer. Pours yellow orange color. When I smelled the nose it was like mint and garbage and old hops and skunk. Tastes totally unbalanced with a mishmash of hops and malt. A real mess of a beer. I wont be touring this facility any time soon!

12oz bottle acquired in trade with bu11zeye (thanks!). Poured a medium orangish color with an averaged sized white head. Aromas of grass, earthy, and some citrus. Tastes of grass and citric oranges.

Pours a nice clear light golden color with a very sticky thick white head- good lace as well. Aroma is nicely hoppy- citrus, pine and grassy. Light pils and cereal malts, with a grassy light citrus flavor, and light on the bittering hops. Easy to drink and nice for a lighter IPA. Ok.

Interesting brew. A very nice smooth maltiness is lended by the german grains used in this one. A nice floral nose but with a slight metallic smell, and crisp but smooth body make this a very drinkable IPA, and my favorite offering from Rahr.

Pours golden yellow with barely any head. Aroma is traditional IPA, but not as strong as typical. More like a pale ale. Barely any malt. Bitterness is nice, but rather astringent and thin. Like others, I don’t know what a "German" IPA is. This one is good, but nontraditional.

Bottle.
Pours average orange witha weak head of straw, retarded hops, and retired orange. Absolutely nothing impressive whatsoever in the nose; in fact, if the label didn’t say IPA, I’d fight to the death that this was a strong Pilsner. Flavor is glorified corn syrup, sour and watered-down grapefruit, and a hint of hops. Weak mouthfeel. I feel cheated.

Sweet name. Bit of a faint nose of honey and pine needles. Corn-like hop scent moreso than any citrus or grassy scent. Some tinny notes noticed, a bit moldy as well. Crisp mostly, a bit wet and oily, tinny hop flavor, but not very deep... kind of simple metallic faint honey and grass hops. Weak palate. They might want to put some good C-note hops in this thing, it would really be killer to drink draft, locally-made, dank IPA in the Texas summer I tells ya.
