Commercial Description:
Rahr's Red is a delicious, medium-bodied amber beer. As it crosses over your tongue, you'll notice a bit of caramel-like malt character. You'll also notice a slight hops bitterness-there to remind you that despite its subtle flavoring Rahr's Red is a Texas beer.

Bottle: Pours a dark amber color with a thin head. The nose is sweet with light raisin and cardboard, thin caramel and light roast. The flavor is bitter and dry with a light thin mouthfeel and a metallic finish. The roast doesn’t quite come through enough before the bitterness kicks in so you get this weird bitey caramel smelling beer. Not balanced, perhaps that’s what "a Texas beer" means.

I know I’ve rated this. Must have lost it with all the alias beer merging. Had in bottles as Red and Buffalo Butt as well as on tap at the Rahr Brewery. Pours a deep red with a little off white head. Smells of malts. Tastes like caramel, malt, and nuts.

Bottle as Buffalo Butt; thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours a ruby amber with a three finger tan head. Nice mildly roasted malt aroma. Medium body with frothy carbonation. A hint of sour, perhaps, with mild herb/hop and light caramel. It’s certainly bitter, but in a mild way. Probably good for washing down food.

On tap at the ballpark in Arlington last night. Amber to brown in color with a thin beige colored head. The smell is caramel, malts, roast, grains. The taste is the weak, some malts, some hops. Better than Bud.

Amber to red in color with an ok head. Aroma is malty with a touch of hops and that goes for the flavor as well. Some biscuit like flavors as well. Seemed weak and watery though.

(Draught) Pours an amber-brown body with a moderate beige head. Aroma of roasted nuts (dominates), earth, and caramel. Flavor of roasted malt, caramel, and grassy hops. Resembles more of a Vienna lager rather than a Premium.
Earlier Rating: 1/9/2005 Total Score: 3.2
(Bottle) Pours a clear amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel and mild hops. Malt base flavor with caramel and hops.

12 oz bottle of Buffalo Butt courtesy of ericandersnavy. Pours a slightly cloudy amber-brown color with a small foamy beige head. The aroma is moderate and earthy with sweet malts, rye biscuit and dust. The flavor is light and indistinct until the finish kicks in and then I get iced tea, nuts, and bready malts. The palate is thin and metallic. Overall: I’m glad for the chance to try this as I kinda like weird named beers, but thats where the novelty ends, this is no Moose Drool.
