Weak malt taste, caramel and actually traces of burnt malt. Watery all in all - Boring my name is Ugly Pug. bigbeerguy (9), Texas, USA does not count | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jan 26, 2006 Wow, I am not sure what I was expecting, but what I got I liked. The Pug pours almost black in color - I think I was expecting a Guiness like beer, but was happy it was not. This Black lager has a nice creamy head that lasts for the duration. Its hints of roast and "creaminess" are well balanced by a nice bittering hop with a silky feeling over the palate. Coffee and chocolate abound in this beer, but it’s never to overbearing - which is nice for a lager beer. Very interesting and I will be drinking more of the PUG in the future!!! Wow - this is a lager beer, impressive! pik5el (51), Pasadena, Maryland, USA

Malty flavor with chocolate and vanilla. Dry finish, overall good but a bit of a letdown. I was expecting more out of ’Ugly Pug’ and the cute little story that accompanied it! | 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Jan 8, 2006 Tootsie Roll chocolately sweet aroma. Caramel malt and no hops. Sweetness is a bit much and a little fake like artificially enhanced; probably just needs a bit more hops. Chocolate milk. Dark brown clear with thin off-white head. Medium watery body with medium carbonation. Starts with chocolate sweetness and nutty hit. Dry dry nutty bitterness and watery harsh bitter finish, dry and sharp. Very little sweetness overall, belying the aroma. A bit weak in taste overall, but this is a hard style sometimes. Light coffee bitterness and some carbonic acidity. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 4, 2006 Aroma was whack, metallic with some caramel and deeply roasted coffeee notes. Light brown head that faded in 2 seconds on a chestnut colored boddy. Flavor was better than expected, deep burned toast flavor with a slight spicy sweetness in the finish. Mouthfeel was too thin and watery for me. Really wanted more from this.
