Aroma dark roasted malt, coffee, toffee. Flavor intense, lively dark and roasted malts, some coffee, somewhat sweet yet nicley balanced. Full, thick textured body. My favorite offering at Rail House. jfenglish (212), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Jet black in color, off-white head. Sweet, boozy, chocolate notes abound, even some licorice. This is substantial. Espresso at the very end, even a touch of whisky? phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 5, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. The black body had a light tan head, like I expected another look? The aroam was mostly milk chocoate with some good tobacco. There was also some roast. The taste was mostly milk chocoalate. The thin body lead to a slick and oily mouthfeel. This finishes with some plum notes. JPDIPSO (4923), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 3, 2008 Dark brown color with a head of tight, dark beige bubbles. Toasted malt aromas with touches of cinnamon and wood. Flavors of roasted malt with a bit of corn syrup. Finish is lightly dry with some cocoa. Smooth feel. Silphium (2137), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 13, 2007 On tap at the brewery. Deep opaque brown/black body, thick tan nitro head. Nose of brown sugar and roasted coffee, fairly light. Another unique flavor profile, just like their bock- this time, a burnt brown sugar and lactic sweetness hits the palate, backed by dry cocoa and roasted coffee, the latter providing a long, bitter finish. Full-bodied with good complexity. A touch prickly and a bit intense for an oatmeal stout. Skyview (4057), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 2, 2007 On tap at the brewpub via nitro. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a heavy and thick tan head. Very slow dissolver and leaves a sticky and excellent lacing. Aroma of toasted chocolate malt, molasses, oatmeal, and some sweet cream. Taste is distinct chocolate barely malt, a little lactic and sweet flowery hops. Finish is smooth, creamy and a slight chocolate aftertaste. One of Rail House’s best brews. The darker roasts used were a bit dry for my taste. However the aroma, creaminess and hop still created a very enjoyable environment for my palate.
