jf_english (148), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 2, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. Silky smooth- heavy booze right away. Jet black in color, off-white head. Sweet, boozy, chocolate notes abound, even some licorice. This is substantial. Espresso at the very end, even a touch of whisky? phishpond417 (1374), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA May 20, 2008 Pours a thick dark brown body with a medium sized brown head. Aroma is sweet of faint milk chocolate and oatmeal. Creamy texture, with a nice lightly roasted malted finish. heemer77 (3634), Savannah, Missouri, USA May 5, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. The black body had a light tan head, like I expected another look? The aroam was mostly milk chocoate with some good tobacco. There was also some roast. The taste was mostly milk chocoalate. The thin body lead to a slick and oily mouthfeel. This finishes with some plum notes. JPDIPSO (4210), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Apr 3, 2008 Dark brown color with a head of tight, dark beige bubbles. Toasted malt aromas with touches of cinnamon and wood. Flavors of roasted malt with a bit of corn syrup. Finish is lightly dry with some cocoa. Smooth feel. Silphium (2006), Lansing, Michigan, USA Aug 13, 2007 On tap at the brewery. Deep opaque brown/black body, thick tan nitro head. Nose of brown sugar and roasted coffee, fairly light. Another unique flavor profile, just like their bock- this time, a burnt brown sugar and lactic sweetness hits the palate, backed by dry cocoa and roasted coffee, the latter providing a long, bitter finish. Full-bodied with good complexity. A touch prickly and a bit intense for an oatmeal stout.
