jerc (3050), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 2, 2008 2008-05-01. Orange amber body with a small quick off white head. Sweet bready malt aroma, light hops, brief sweet hint of fruit or white grapes? (6+) Similarly sweet malty flavour, just enough bitterness to balance things nicely. (6+) Palate is slightly more full bodied than average, pleasantly so. (3+) On the mild side of the flavour spectrum, but a pretty solid first effort. Nice job. Growler courtesy of MrManning
Habman (16), London, Ontario, Canada Jul 2, 2008 I sampled three of the plastic bottles poured into a glass on separate occasions over the weekend. The beer pours an orange-amber colour, with little carbonation evident even with a vigorous pour on the second and third sampling. Aroma is a unique mixture of bread, citrus, malt, really not much in the way of hops. Body is medium to full, the finish is almost like a wheatbeer, although with a less than pleasant bite at times. Blond Ale? Nothing like any I have ever tasted.
I really wanted to like this one, having been a happy customer of this place for homebrew supplies over the years. And of course any new micro being run by an independent is a good thing. I’m going to put this tasting down to beer that hopefully has some start up issues associated with it. So I will try again another few weeks down the road.
matt7215 (489), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Jun 11, 2008 growler from a trade with mrmanning. pours light orange with a nice white head and steady carbonation. aromas are yeasty with bready malt underneath. flavours are yeasty and bread maltish with some citrus hops. weird combo here. kinda tastes light a belgian wit / blonde ale hybrid. palatable and enjoyable. a welcomed edition to the ontario craft beer scene. JesseM (337), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jun 11, 2008 Homebrewesque bottle given to me by MrManning (thanks Len!). Pours a deep GOLD, not sure where these confused ratings of an amber coloured beer are coming from, with a small white head head. Aroma: Really odd, but good, VERY Belgian like, quite fruity, pears, apples, a hint of apricot, and yeasty. Nice! Flavour: More of the same from the aroma, with a slight sour touch, and maybe even some clove. Very good! Nice a refreshing as well on such a hot sunny day. Man this stuff is enjoyable. An odd little beer though, this honestly could pass as a Belgian Ale of some sort. Thanks again Len! VeloVampire (374), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 11, 2008 Growler from the brewery - pours, as others have noted, decidedly amber, and not at all blonde, although the two other offerings (Copper and Amber) were on display at the brewery beside this one, and I guess it looked blonde next to those. Anyway - good sized white head that quickly settles to a surface layer. Aroma mainly sweet bready malts and a bit of booze as well. Flavour similar, but with more emphasis on the malt, more fresh dough, and a very subtle hop finish. Soft and delicate mouthfeel. I wanted to like this one more than I did, but I’d still like to try the other two offerings from this brewery. It’s a good start, and certainly gets points for freshness. tupalev (2267), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 9, 2008 Growler shared with Hogtown Harry, Jerc, GregClow, and Blankboy, courtesy of Mr Manning (thanks Len!). Amber, small white head (blonde?). Aroma - lots of bready sweetness, just a hint of hops in background. Taste is malt forward, sweet without cloying, very fresh. Nothing terribly overwhelming, just a solid session style ale. If I was local, I’d reach for it. Nice first effort, looking forward to your future offerings.
