Commercial Description:
A generous amount of dark caramel malt gives this brew it’s notes of dried fruits and caramel. It’s distinct copper color comes from this malt as well. Complex malting aromas and flavors dominate, but it’s the Fuggles and East Kent Goldings hops that give this beer a satisfying, and lasting, smooth mellow bitter finish. (Our brewer took license here - the original Copper Ale was a single varietals hop brew using only EKG hops.)

Bottled. Pours copper with a small head. Smells caramelly. Tastes slightly botter with hints of hops on the finish. Great as a session beer at a barbeque.

Pours deep copper, with aroma of malt, tobacco, and caramel/toffee. Tastes malty, with toffee/caramel at the finish. The finish was also roasty and rauchy to an extent. This one was all over the place.

From a bottle I got at a local grocery store. This poured with a very very large head. When I popped the cap, it was relatively loud. Even my large tulip glass could not handle all the head. The body is dark copper with a dark khaki body. The aroma is sweet with pancakes and cherries. There is also a little bit of sweat socks. The taste is very dry with hints of nasty pear cores and some bell pepper. There is a weird sweet note through this one. Not too bad.

Copper color with a light malty aroma. Taste isn’t sweet or hoppy. This was served just way too warm. Middle of the road would be a compliment.

In the bottle from HyVee Council Bluffs. New label and being marketed as simply "Copper Ale" now. Pours a cloudy brown with large floating chunks of debris. A muddy beige foamy head that errupts out of the glass due to excessive over-carbonation. Has an earthy, dirty astringent aroma. The flavor has a strong tartness that is not pleasant. In fact, a vinegar sourness. This beer has turned. Rancid. Down the drain.

My bottle read "Ramapo Valley Copper Ale" (apparently they just started bottling their beers). Anyway, like the four other Ramapo beers I tried, there's virtually no head and little carbonation. Guys, you need to work on quality control! Other than that, this is probably an unorthodox brown ale with a hint of sourness. The body is fairly malty and sweet. But something's just not right here! As of 11/03, I've learned that the bottled version of this beer has been recalled.

Very Nice spicy/sweet/nutty aroma. Nicely smooth, and toasty, flavor. Has a decent hop "pop" at the finish. Thanks to Lou18 for the trade!

[bottled - "Ramapo Valley Copper Ale"] I guess their second attempt at bottling their beers came out better, because this is a pretty decent beer - dark copper with a moderate head and medium carbonation - a little thin bodied, but the flavor is a pretty good mix of nuts and chocolate - mild hop finish - a touch of sweetness - nothing awe-inspiring, but quite drinkable.
