Commercial Description:
RVB IPA (Indian Pale Ale) is our offering for you hop-heads. (You know who you are!) the style has a history borne of practicality. The beer, brewed in England, was being exported to British troops in India. It had to be specially brewed to survive the long boat ride around Africa. So to prevent the brew from spoiling, it had to be more alcoholic, more malty and more hoppy. Our IPA isn't quite as potent as those of that era, but it is generously hopped and has a firm malty foundation. It's brewed to the American model of IPA which uses domestic hops that tend towards citrusy impressions such as grapefruit this deep amber colored beer is made with pale, crystal and munich malts. This three-pronged malt bill lays a sturdy foundation for gobs of hops. The alcohol level s about 6.5%ABV. We finish this beer with cascade, chinook, and amarillo hops resulting in a spicy, citrusy, bouquet.

12 oz. Bottle. I didn’t find this ale to be very hoppy at all. It was more like a red ale, heavy on the malt and lightly hopped. However my taste buds could have been altered by the 2 other hoppy beers that I just finisihed; Sierra Nevada’s Celebration Ale and Land Mark’s India Red Ale. Trail Quencher was not in their league! While it wasn’t a bad beer, it was another case of a misrepresented beer. There weren’t enough hops in this beer to consider it an IPA. Not a bad red ale, but a real bad IPA!

April 2004. Red copper ale with a nice grapefruit and hops aroma. Good balanced hops and malts with citrus and medium bodied.

I liked this one a lot. Pours copper with a nice head. Aroma of malt, hopcit, spice, florals, fruit. Tastes malty, hoppy, with finishing fruity and floral notes. Wonderfully complex, with a very smooth palate. With all due respect, I think those that had this at fests should try it again at the brewpub. After my sampler, I had two pints with my fish-and-chips, and it was just delicious. Not as good as the Sly Fox IPAs, but a rock-solid entry in its own right.

Brewtopia 2004: Deep cooper with a small white head. Caramel malts in the aroma, fizzy body, light bitter start and ending.

Draught at Brewtopia ’04 Clear, deep amber color with a good head. Sweet malt in the aroma with a diminished hop bouquet. The body is a little thin and overall this might be better as an APA or bitter. Just needs more presence to be a top IPA.

Tap at Brewtopia, Ok nose. Litely piney, sourdough, lagerish scent. Orange copper color. Sweet, malty citrusy. Thin body, clean finish. Eh not that exciting and not Trail Quenching

Averaged size frothy head. Deep Amber/Mahogony in color. Piney smells. Malty tastes with light hoppy bitterness. Watery palate. I prefer my IPAs a little more hoppy and bitter.
