It was more like a red ale, heavy on the malt and lightly hopped. However my taste buds could have been altered by the 2 other hoppy beers that I just finisihed; Sierra Nevada’s Celebration Ale and Land Mark’s India Red Ale. Trail Quencher was not in their league! While it wasn’t a bad beer, it was another case of a misrepresented beer. There weren’t enough hops in this beer to consider it an IPA. Not a bad red ale, but a real bad IPA! | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 8, 2004 I liked this one a lot. Pours copper with a nice head. Aroma of malt, hopcit, spice, florals, fruit. Tastes malty, hoppy, with finishing fruity and floral notes. Wonderfully complex, with a very smooth palate. With all due respect, I think those that had this at fests should try it again at the brewpub. After my sampler, I had two pints with my fish-and-chips, and it was just delicious. Not as good as the Sly Fox IPAs, but a rock-solid entry in its own right. Volgon (2489), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

Clear, deep amber color with a good head. Sweet malt in the aroma with a diminished hop bouquet. The body is a little thin and overall this might be better as an APA or bitter. Just needs more presence to be a top IPA. OldGrowth (1426), North Carolina, USA
