Tap at the brewpub. Pours copper colored with no head. Aroma is a mix of American hops, carmel, and a bit of butterscotch. Flavor has a decent balance of carmel malt and hops, and I did note some diacytle there as well. Needs some head!!! 7-3-7-3-13 DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 8, 2004 I liked this one a lot. Pours copper with a nice head. Aroma of malt, hopcit, spice, florals, fruit. Tastes malty, hoppy, with finishing fruity and floral notes. Wonderfully complex, with a very smooth palate. With all due respect, I think those that had this at fests should try it again at the brewpub. After my sampler, I had two pints with my fish-and-chips, and it was just delicious. Not as good as the Sly Fox IPAs, but a rock-solid entry in its own right. PBOYNY (316), Westchester, New York, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 30, 2003 [bottled] Despite the redundant label ("trail quencher IPA ale"), this is a tasty and unique IPA - dark amber-ish in color, with respectbale lace and medium carbonation - mildly sweet aroma, with some pine - medium bodied but quite malty, with lots of bready flavors and a slight sweetness that balances well with the hops - not as hoppy as most like their IPAs, but it tastes good - citrus in the mix in the finish - this brewery deserves some attention. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 15, 2002 Hazy dark amber. Creamy tan head. Trickling carbonation. Smooth, gentle feel. Solid piney hop bitterness and flavor. Medium body. Dry malts, light citric aftertaste. Clean tasting, not sticky. Finishes a little watery but nicely balanced with a light biscuit aftertaste mixing with citric peel bitters. A respectable version. ElJefe (553), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 26, 2006 Pours slightly hazy dark amber (actually very dark for an IPA). Thick, creamy tan head that lasts for a long time and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is surprisingly malty - sweet caramels laced with piney hops. Hops make a comeback in the flavor, but are very nicely balanced with malty sweetness. Grassy, piney hops abound. VERY well balanced, I enjoyed this a lot. Suttree (2748), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 6, 2005 Brownish copper, with a decent sized head. Huge caramel nose. Very well balanced, with a prominent, smooth sweet malt base and peppery, spicy hop finsh that really seems to "pop" at the end. Nicely made and a cool approach to the style. Thanks to Lou18 for the trade! apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 30, 2003 This beer looked real purdy when it was first poured, with a lush white head on a dark copper/brown body. This is a very strange IPA though, as it is not really very hoppy at all. It is very malty, and it has a lot of toastiness to it. The finish has a bitter bite.
