Commercial Description:
“Floor-malted” Maris Otter malt, imported from England, is the base upon which six other malts are added to provide the complex richly malty flavor and body to this brew. (One of these malts, brown malt, is a malt style that had been on the brink of extinction.) This recipe is based on a popular English recipe from the 1850s, but it’s been updated for modern ingredients and palates. Only English East Kent Goldings and Fuggles hops are generously used.

12 oz bottle via trade from Lou18 - Thanks Lou! - Pours black witha short tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma iss roasty with a touch of chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt a touch of chocolate and some wood notes. Palate is about right for a porter a little watery but medium bodied with a good mouthfeel.. but there is a sour aftertaste that leaves me asking why? This wasn’t bad but it just wasn’t a great porter either due to that aftertaste.

Small tan head, good retention, sparse, stringy lace. An almost black brew with brown edging. Nose is lightly spicey and roasty. Body is medium, lightly chalky. Light roast flavors, chocolate, caramel sweetness hiding in there and some black patent notes too boot. Finish is fairly dry. A decent porter. Thanks Lou!

Clear dark mahogany. No head. Burnt grain, ash, vanilla, leather aroma. Burnt grain flavor supported by dark caramel. Nice porter. My favorite of the RVB line up.

Thankst to Lou18 for this beer.

Poured dark brown with a fizzy off-white head. Sweet aroma of caramel, cocoa, and a touch of fruit. Taste is dominated by a dry metallic bitterness, with smokiness and dark fruit showing through some. Long dry finish, without tons of flavor to show for it. Seems somewhat thin. Good with food, but not overwhelmingly palatable on its own.

Brewtopia ’05. This is an Ok Porter. Roasty, and malty flavors. Finishes clean, dry, and crisp.

Deep dark brown, light carbonation. Nice malty and roasted aroma. Sweet chocolate malts, and a little bit of the roasted flavor and a little hops. Subtle fruity hints too.

lmgraz1 keeps the malted goodness coming with this bottle, poured a deep, opaque brown, with virtually no head. Smell was kind of sweet, the malts seemingly blended with chocolates. Taste was very malty, with only hints of the chocolate and maybe some tinges of caramel. Nothing bad about the flavor, just that I prefer my porters to be a little more full in flavor and a little more complex.
