Commercial Description:
“Floor-malted” Maris Otter malt, imported from England, is the base upon which six other malts are added to provide the complex richly malty flavor and body to this brew. (One of these malts, brown malt, is a malt style that had been on the brink of extinction.) This recipe is based on a popular English recipe from the 1850s, but it’s been updated for modern ingredients and palates. Only English East Kent Goldings and Fuggles hops are generously used.

Had this out of the bottle. Poured deep black with a tan head. mid -level and lasting. Aroma of raosted malts and candy toffee and caramel. taste was of a chocolate and caramel, toffee dryness that was pleasant and had good body fill. this was good, and i will have another.

This has the color of a nice brown ale, deep brown, translucent with ruby highlights everywhere, but very tin color for a proper Porter. Good aroma of chocolate and coffee hit the nose so maybe I’m wrong to judge by appearance alone. The body is a bit thin for a Porter, but there is a decent chocolate and coffee flavor going on here to keep this out of the ditch. A little bit of work on this recipe would make it a real serious contender, but work still needs to be done first.

The only one from this brewpub which was ok. Nearly pitch black, fast diminsihing frothy head. Unpleasant burnt coffee nose. Nice coffee, licorice taste, thick and smooth. All in all unbalanced but decent.

I had just finished drinking their IPA, when I saw this bottle and said...no I messed up and bought the same beer! Maybe my eyes and taste buds are messed up, but I thought this beer tasted and looked exactly the same as the IPA. Maybe the labels got mixed up, but this was NO porter! I wouldn’t try this beer again.

This one poured brown in color. The server said they were trying a new malt with this, and the color was more amber than dark brown. Aroma of malt, chocoff. Tastes malty, with some nuts and chocoff in the finish. Very light in body for a porter, and not real complex.

Brewtopia ’04: Brown with a small off-white head. Chocolate nose with some dark fruits. Full bodied with lively carbonation. Starst and ends lightly sweet with a fruity ending.

Brewtopia’04. Dark, reddish brown; little head. Burnt, roasty aromas, some tobacco. Body is medium, slightly tart, not too sweet. Not exciting, sort of a standard brewpub porter.

Dark chestnut brown colour. Toasty, coffeeish aroma - fresh dark grains, yum. Dry, slightly burned palate with a firm hop bitterness. Retronasal esters.
