Appears a hazy red toned brown with a thick white head that fades into a collar. Scattered lacing is left all over the glass.
Smell is of light dusty cocoa, clove, and some wheat with light caramel in there.
Taste is of te same aromas.
Mouthfeel is watery, thin, cocoa powder and cloves and sticking to the front of the tongue until finally dying out.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Apr 26, 2006 Poured a brown amber color with a small, off white head that left spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast, caramel, banana, nuts, and some light spices. Taste of caramel malts, chocolate, earth, light banana, citrus fruits, but a rather thin mouthfeel overall. harmfuldrunk (288), New Jersey, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 1/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Mar 18, 2006 roasty dark beer nice, tastes ok really not sure why they say classic wheat when it is dark and does taste more like a dark wheat, besides the obvious its just a little too watery and weak for me. It is decent I am interested in there stronger beers. willblake (2189), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

I must admit to my surprise when I started pouring this stuff into the glass as I had no idea it was a dunkelweizen when I bought it. I also was surprised at how flat and lifeless it appeared, luckily I was able to log in and confirm that the beer was as it should be, or at least, as it normally appears.
The deep brown pour sits motionless below an oil slick smooth surface, nary a hint of carbonation after the initial vigorous pour. The aroma is all subtleties with bold burnt caramel, sun dried grass, charcoal, and burnt toast. There’s a nuisance of miniscule and haphazard smells ranging from clay to dried herbs. The flavor seems to highlight the burnt with an ashy astringency and chalky lingering palate. I detect little or no fruity yumminess, and only the slightest hint of dark, bitter cocoa. More subtleness attacks with quick breaths of molasses, tobacco, dried anise seed. No, I am neither rapt with spice nor engaged by complex malts. With temp, some tingling carbonation becomes present on the palate, livening the body just enough to improve the drinkability. It did go well with grilled sausages. Alas, I’m not convinced that a beer should focus on being subtle when it hasn’t a strong leg to stand on. Cletus (5058), Connecticut, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 30, 2005 Pours brown with a film of tan bubbles. Smells of alcohol and toffee. Tastes is very rich with cherries, grapes, nuts, and some of that alcohol popping up. The alcohol is surprisingly prevelant, though not enough for alcohol burn. Rich caramel candy finish. Unusual but tasty! DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 15, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with Eyedrinkale, thanks Mike!) I’ve been holding onto this beer for quite some time, hoping to get some of the best dunkelweizens together to see how it would compare, but in the process, I think this beer has lost a bit due to excessive aging. It smells quite mushroomy and earthy, which from my experience is often a sign of overaging. Granted, I like that aroma a lot, I often cook with pungent smelling and tasting Shitake mushrooms, but it’s overpowering the other aromas that I suspect ought to be there. Fairly intense flavor, with sweet, toasty and very caramely malts, dark fruits, molasses, some roastiness, but also that earthy, mushroomy flavor. Despite this, I can still taste a bit of banana in the background, but it’s easy to overlook. Medium-full in body, nicely carbonated, and doesn’t thin at all in the finish. Murky, dark brown color has modest translucence. Light tan head pours small and fades to a tiny ring, but the aging could have had a negative impact on this. In the end, this has still been an enjoyable beer, but it’s probably quite different from how it tastes fresh. Will have to retry in the future. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 17, 2005 Poured dark brown with practically no head. Not a great appearance. Smell had banana, cloves, chocolate, coffee and a unique sourness. The sourness was too much in the taste for me. To me this cannot compete with some of the good German Dunkelweizens. I liked it, but the sourness was a little funky. It went away by the finish, but that was too late.
