Commercial Description:
Creamy head smooth carbonation complements its deep mahogany color. Bouquet teems with chocolate, apple and clove. Roasted malts intertwine with the Tettnanger hops to create a depth of complex flavors. Smooth roasted malts and dark caramel leads to clean finish - unlike any other dark beer.

Surely one of the finest pure dunkelweizens I’ve ever had.

Clear, dark copper body with big beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, clove, caramel, some banana, pear. Taste is medium sweet, chocolate, caramel, some anise, clove, finishing with a lovely combination of chocolate and Tettnang hops. Fairly light body with just a touch of stickiness. Damn fine beer!

(Bottle) Pours a dark brown body with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of rye bread, fennel, roastiness, caramel, nuts, and ripened banana. Flavor of rye, toasted whole grain wheat, caramel, and a touch of chocolate with nice carbonation in the mouthfeel. An enjoyable Dunkelweizen.

Sampled from growler provided by weeare138. Poured a dark brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of wheat, cloves, caramel, chocolate and a little on the musty side. Tastes of wheat, chocolate, and caramel. I found the tastes to be on the lighter and thinner side with a thin body.

Vinous aroma allows much more alcohol through than I’d anticipate for this style. It comes out in a phosphoric, minty and anise like foreground that quickly reminds of a strong roasty tea with notes of cloves. Body is very dark, schwarzbier like, but the little off-white head dissipates quickly. Biting carbonation doesn’t last long. Once again, a surprisingly fruity and vinous flavor, nutty, alcoholic and not quite to my liking in its balance despite the rather vast array of esters and malt nuances.

Draft... GBOA ’06... Clear caramel-colored ale with a small, very creamy, light tan head. Excellent retention. Chocolate and clove aroma and flavor. Well-balanced and a touch tangy. Medium-bodied and creamy with soft carbonation. Finishes gently sweet and spicy.

Proud, sweet toffee roaming on clove-y, earthy grounds...Prune juice, vanilla and mutable hop bitterness in a fuller body but fainter flavor profile compared to their Blonde Wheat...Yeast shot somewhat overwhelms the previous subtleties and creates a dry, dusty finale...
