I have had the Aventinus recently, and this is WAY different. Aroma is nearly the same as the regular Winter Wheat. Clovey/chocolately and no real hint of alcohol. There is a slight and lasting head that is nice and brown. The color is pitch black. Now the fun begins. Flavor is smooth and creamy, almost to the point of being light and fluffy. Chocolate nmalt flavors dominate over the alcohol to the point of making this beer deadly. Where the Aventinus removes enamel, this satisfys one's thirst for beer. Wonderfully balanced and drinkable, perhaps the best Eisbock that I have ever tried. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

Had it out of a growler that was filled up from the brewery. Fresh. Great flavors. Chocolatety. Lasting head. Really good. Very limited though. Smooth tasting. Well balanced and very drinkable. Its 11 and 1/2%, but its very subtle. You don't notice it. Very enjoyable.
)If anyone is interested Andy's Corner Bar, in Bogota, NJ. will be having a special night February 18th 2004, to introduce this beer its in very limited quantities, so get it while its available. Special Night. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 3, 2008 This is one of those long-time Want List beers.. extra thanks to Paul for hand-bottling this and sending it my way! Poured deep, raspberry-tinted brown with an awesome creamy cap of deep tan head (too bad it settled down rather quickly). The aroma is rich and seductive with molasses and some dark spice that I really dug (but can’t name) interlaced with drawn caramel and chocolate.. warmth brought out a layer of plums and nutmeg.. this was endlessly-complex! The flavor opened with the faintest tartness from plum skins and Turbinado sugars.. sweeter chocolates and drawn, toasty caramel grasp the center of the palate, and release a sweet blend of chocolate and caramel onto the back-end, which found those spices from the nose.. the warm, long finish was just exquisite. Heavier-bodied with creamy carbonation on the palate, and the right components found the right parts of the mouth. One question, though.. where the hell do they hide all that supposed alcohol?!? And another.. Where has this been all my life?? JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 23, 2007 Sampled at Capone’s and took home a growler to continue the goodness. From the keg, this thing looked like a tannish latte - growler produced a dark brown color with a tan head. Smoky, heavy wheat aroma with hints of caramelized banana, cherry, roasted malts, & some wood. Taste is a wonderful mix of heavily toasted malts, wheat, caramel, banana, fig, and chocolate. Thick, foamy mouthfeel. Wow. I feel very privileged to have tasted this one - Thanks Matt! ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 24, 2005 2004 version, hand bottled by Maibockaddict, thanks again Dave! Deep orange-amber color with some dark mahogany browns and light crimson tints. Hazy, unpasteurised and bottle conditioned. Aroma is quite reminiscent of the Winter Wheat, but has a more pronounced tobacco and charred-wood aroma to it. Some dry toffee, a touch of alcohol and bitter, dark chocolate. Roasty, nutty, coffee-like notes as well. Flavor builds off of the non-iced version, but takes the chocolate, tobacco and roast up a notch. There’s more to sink your teeth in to on this one, with some dry, oily fruit flavors (grapeskin, currants, apples, some banana) on the finish. Thick woodsmoke on the palate throughout, with a light saltiness and a bit of alcohol. Nothing like what I expected, and like no other eisbock I’ve tried, not even the Schneider Aventinus weizen-eis. Overflowing with quality and care of brewing. ruffian (149), montvale, New Jersey, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 29, 2004 Only had a tasting thimble. Very good. Obviously the appearance is similar to a winter wheat. Flavor is again very similar to the winter wheat, with the expected notes that wheat imparts. The alcohol content is well hidden, you do not realize how much alcohol is really in it. The body is the major difference. I was expecting it to be thick and heavy, however it comes off as light but full. Kind of like a whipped up egg white. It stands up and coats your tongue and mouth. You can feel the volume of it, but it isn't thick and heavy. I would highly suggest that you get some if you can. willblake (2177), Belcamp, Maryland, USA

Dark brown pour with a smallish, fleeting head. Aromas of concentrated banana, black cherry, clove, fig. I could’ve just smelled the stuff all day. Flavors are surprisingly roasty, chocolate, more fig, more holiday spiciness. Very sweet, very smooth, little noticable alcohol. A real treat.
