Rich Amber Bock brewed with Vienna and Munich malts. Pure lager yeast ferments this beer to create a deep malty character with a hint of caramel toffee aroma. Robust noble hops and 7.5% abv. intertwine the malty and toasty flavors. Historically, this beer is brewed once a year to celebrate the “Stark Bierzeit” (strong beer season) and to welcome the warming Spring Sunshine. From a growler thanks to MaiBockAddict. Poured darker than I expected, a murky dark amber color with a small tan head. Aroma of mild malts, fresh bread and some spices. Flavor was pretty similar but with a dry hop finish where you can finally taste the alcohol that was kept so well hidden.

Thanks to hophead for the handbottle. Pours a copper brown with a thin offwhite head. The nose is malty, sweet, earthy, bready, light hop aroma. The flavor is really malty, crisp, light waxy bite, bready sweet malt, earthy. The mouthfeel is crisp and still carbonated a light waxy feel from the hops and it finishes with a little grain.

On tap at the Mad Mex in West Philly. Clear brown-orange with a slim white head; leaves lace. Lemon wheat with light pear-apple malts. Smooth, medium light, a bit of carb, sorta sticky. Faint sour lager develops a nice sweetness reminiscent of carrot juice. Bready drying with slight metallic. Solid stuff.
