Commercial Description:
A bottle conditioned version of Firebox with the addition of spice oils.
Pale malt, chocolate malt; Progress and Target hops; ginger, cloves, cinnamon, corriander, nutmeg, pimento. A dark, rich spicy bottle-conditioned ale, resonant with Christmas seasonal flavours and designed to take the chill off the coolest winter night. Ale Mary has a warm and sweet aroma of cloves, coriander and ginger. The palate provides touches of rum, raisins and sultanas, with a dry fruity finish. This ale has been exclusively brewed for us by Paul Davey of RCH Brewery.

Bottle. Red. A reasonable strong ale, fruity and with some restrained spice making it appropriate for the season. There is also a touch of sourness, possibly slightly infected. Acceptable but I couldn’t finish it.

Sampled at a 2005 Christmas and Winter beer tasting at Delilah’s, Chicago, IL. 2003 vintage. Clear amber ale having a long-lasting large off-white head. No discernable carbonation. Nice caramel and sweet malt aroma. Medium bodied that starts with light sweet malt, spice and caramel flavors. Finishes with a light malt aftertaste. This is a good drinkable malty winter brew.

500ml bottle from Sainsburys. Oh dear. Murky reddy copper colour with thin white head. Soapy, spicey and not my style of beer at all. The spices seem all out of kilter with the rest of the beer. Perhaps it is just my sense of taste.

500 mL bottle, with tons of fruits and acids on the psssht. gigantic fluffy slightly-offwhite head that lasts forever; i could scoop it out with a slotted spoon. more balanced flavor than the aroma suggests, but only in that it is surprisingly mild. at 6% this is an easy-drinking surprise.

(Bottle) Pours a copper body with a large beige head. Aroma of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, toffee, sour citrus, and berries. Flavor of raisins, fruit, toffee, breadiness, and spices.

Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Great spicy aroma with cinnamon and clove to the fore. Little bit of grapefruity hop. Slightly sweet in mouth with the spice still present. Well balanced finish with hop and appley fruit.

Bottle. Pours a crystalline amber color with a gigantic off-white head. It’s kind of hard to get the aroma through the head, but it seems to be raisins and numerous spices, especially nutmeg and corriander. The mouthfeel is a bit thinner than I had expected, but it embodies a rather complex flavor: the numerous spices are most prominent, and the chocolate malt comes out in the finish. A reasonably tasty brew.
