Orangy brown, huge fluffy persistent head. Huge hoppy bitter aroma, crisp and a little gingery, but with a powerful darker bitterness. Slightly creamy, but a little thin in the mouth, but in a refreshing way. Right at the instant of the first sip there is a slightly appley taste, but a large wave of solid English noble hops kicks in very quickly, and that’s what leaves a really tasty finish. Some damp sheep and saccharin later on, but that’s moderated. Solid bitter - a classic. No ’wow’, but just so solid. 4th day of the barrel, and with only 2L left according to the barman. cgarvieuk (4222), Edinburgh, Scotland

Best beer of the day for me and from a wetherspoons over all the other hot spots in Edinburgh? Aroma is rich malts, spicey peppery malts, orange peel comes in later. Taste is similar, though chcolate malt is key too, though not over powering at all. Good esb.

Pours deep redish amber with a pretty nice, creamy, off-white head. Aroma is a bit of cellar, caramel, toffee and subdued hops - some buttery notes as well. Okay, frothy mouthfeel. Flavour is a bit sweet, okay caramel, buttery and soft. A bit boring, but okay. yespr (12426), Copenhagen O, Denmark
