Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
First brewed to celebrate the 500th guest beer at the Dartmouth Inn, Newton Abbot, and was named by a customer in a competition. It went down so well that it has become a regular beer. This enigmatic full bodied beer with malty hoppy fruit bitter with a sweet taste which all vie for dominance in this complex and well crafted premium chestnut coloured ale

A Sim rate (Cask at Planet Thanet): Tastes quite strong with definite hops, wheat and peach. Biscuity, dry finish. Decent amber colour.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Amber with a small off white head. Malt and fruit aroma. Taste was deliciously sweet and malty with a strong slightly sour fruitiness. Decent bitter finish. Very good indeed.

Bottle conditioned. Dark amber color. Malt, raisin and something fishy in the aroma. Caramel and salt in the malty flavor. Laurel in the aftertaste.

Bottle. Brownish beer with a strong frothy head. The aroma is sweetly caramel with a bitter finish, and the flavour is quite creamy, with a sweet and very mildly bitter body. Overall a good gentle beer.

500ml bottle (bottle conditioned), from Rich’s Farm Shop, Somerset. Murky reddish copper colour. No head to speak of after the initial pour. Full malty aroma, quite yeasty, with a hint of treacle. But there’s something a bit unappealing that I can’t quite identify lurking in the background. More sweet malt, treacle and yeast on the palate. I even thought it had a vaguely Belgian feel to it. Plenty of other stuff going on - a little chocolate, lots of plummy fruit and malt loaf (the stuff with dried fruit in it). Bittersweet finish. Quite chewy with a fairly full mouthfeel.

(Cask at Market Porter, London) Clear amber head topped by a quickly dissipating white head that never returns. Aroma is medium sweet, fresh-baked bread, some fruity. Taste is medium sweet, raisin, light spicy yeast, medicinal. Very watery light body.
