Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
As both Paul and Graham are rail enthusiasts the beer is named after the firebox in a steam engine. A reddish deep brown coloured beer which is a deceptively drinkable strong bitter with a fine combination of citrus hops and cherry fruit bittersweet flavours which gives a strong dry bitter finish.
Pale malt, chocolate malt; Progress and Target hops.

Bottle: Hazy, some UFO’s visible, stable off-white creamy head; distinctive aromas of sweet raisins and aromatic herbal hops in the nose, supported bysome malt; solid bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied; citrussy hops and sweet (dark-) malt feature in the lingering dry and nutty finish. A good beer.........

2nd August 2008. Slightly cloudy amber beer. Well balanced. Mellow malt followed by fruity hops. Let down by a mouth drying astringent bitter finish.

Bottled. Reddish copper coloured, small creamy off-white head. Aroma is wood, some flowery hops as well as dark dry fruits and mild nectary notes. Flavour is quite much the same along with some caramel. Quite "thick" palate, with some mild alcoholic notes in the finish. Still a very pleasant brew, that works well from bottle as well.

Cask - White Cliffs Beer Festival. Pours a clear, copper colour with a small, disappearing head. Loaded with blackcurrant on the nose and a typical malty sweetness. A good balance of a sweet fruitiness from the malts and a strong hoppy bitterness. Good body and a smooth palate texture.
