Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
As both Paul and Graham are rail enthusiasts the beer is named after the firebox in a steam engine. A reddish deep brown coloured beer which is a deceptively drinkable strong bitter with a fine combination of citrus hops and cherry fruit bittersweet flavours which gives a strong dry bitter finish.
Pale malt, chocolate malt; Progress and Target hops.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a lazing orange head. The aroma is sweet and very malty. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of hay, leading to a bitter finish.

(Bottle 50 cl) Clear, dark, amber golden with an off-white, lacing head. Lovely, nutty nose. Medium body with lightly sweet caramel accents and a touch of nuts. The finish is dry and vaguely bitter. 130507

ÅBF08. Weak aromatic hop aroma. Clear amber colour. Very small white head. The flavour is slightly sweet, some aromatic hoppiness. Grainy finish.

Bottled. Reddish copper coloured, small creamy off-white head. Aroma is wood, some flowery hops as well as dark dry fruits and mild nectary notes. Flavour is quite much the same along with some caramel. Quite "thick" palate, with some mild alcoholic notes in the finish. Still a very pleasant brew, that works well from bottle as well.

What an odd beer. Very buttery at first, followed by some firm malt flavours (bread and toffee) but this all disintegrates into a confused finish where a bunch of elements make cameos but none sticks around to give us a real sense of what this beer is all about.
