Dark brown, nearly black in color with red tinges. 1 finger creamy tan head. Aroma of dark malt, chocolate, coffee, and cherries. Tastes of black malt with notes of chocolate, black cherries, and coffee. Full mouthfeel, nicely carbonated, with a medium finish. Delicious aftertaste of cherries and chocolate. This is a very tasty porter. Well worth trying. KnN (754), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA
| 1.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 5/20 | Oct 12, 2008 Aqueous doesn’t even begin to describe this beer. It was flatter than a dead raccoon on the pour Looked ok. There was a nice deep brown color to it, but no carbonation to speak of. Flavor was non-existent. Aroma wasn’t really there either. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 23, 2008 A soft bottle-conditioned English porter from the sweeter end of the scale. Quite a subtle, well-balanced beer. Lovely-looking - teak with a fat shaving-cream head that laced extravagantly. Regrettably, the beer showed some sign of the spoilage that seems to have marred a recent delivery of British beers to Australia. This is the fourth beer from four different brewers in the last month that has exhibited a nasty rubber car-mat off-note. Can’t be the brewers (all different), so it must be a problem with transport or storage. Won’t hold that against the beer, but it’s hard to ignore, particularly with a subtle aroma like this. There’s dry cocoa powder and faint milky coffee. The soft bottle-conditioned carbonation complements the style. Sweet and smooth. This is probably a better beer than this rating reflects. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 14, 2008 Bottled 50cl. It pours a ruby beer with ruby reflects. Small creamy beige head. Good retention. The nose is of roasted malt, milk chocolate, lemon peel, cork and mint - very smooth and pleasant with quite a lot of candy. Smooth taste of roasted malt with hints of chocolate, mint, cress, quite a lot of cherries, tar and cork. Slightly vinous. Woody and faintly smoky. Sweet. Some candy floss and lemon peel sneaking in - which I really like. Complex. Light to medium bodied. Nice lacework. Pleasant mouthfeel. Decent bitterness. The finish is dry with hints of coffee, lemon peel, mineral water, snow!? and vanilla. Excellent. Thanks a lot Bov for this wonderful beer! timsilvia32 (447), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

Taste has nice roast malts, slight coffee and dark chocolate. Pretty medium bodied, finish with a little coffee bitter, clean, drinkable. Good version of the standard Engligh porter. robforbes (1112), Bremerton, Washington, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Dark brown, red-tinted, fizzy beige head. Light coffee and cocoa powder nose. Light, quaff-friendly mouthfeel. Tastes better than it smells like an enhanced version of the aromas including coffee and chocolate. Refreshing and robust. bhensonb (4386), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2008 Bottle from Beer Geek. Pours very dark brown with a multifinger beige head. Aroma is rather cola, with chocolate and coffee. Medium plus body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is primarily chocolate, backed by toasted malt and coffee. Suggestions of darker fruits. Finish is fairly dry, and there is a dried dark fruit aspect - but not sweet - just fruit. Mouthsmackingly tasty. Bitter in the finish, but from hop or toast?
