Bottled import version...utter crap! A weak herbal aroma, atop a light bodied beer, mild herbal flavors, virtually no malt at all, then a big empty strong bitter finish. Near straw color, with a huge pillowy whipped cream head. Dumped it.

From the bottle, poured a dense gold with a thick white head. Medium-bodied with a hoppy, slightly woody character. The medium body carried a fruity/hoppy flavor balance through until the slightly crisp finish. Not a stand-out.

Strange that I haven’t rated this before as it is one of my favourite uk real ales. Has a great flowery malt aroma. Persistent head. Rich natural hop taste balanced wonderfully with a certain fresh maltiness. Taste developes into a rich and complec, though still balanced, hop freshness. Very hoppy by UK standards. A beer one can drink all night with equal pleasure throughout.

A huge, frothy head left big, rocky lace above this thick, murky golden/sepia beer. Aromas held big yeasty characteristics: heavily earthen (clay), barnyard, hay, and light floral perfume that was soapy... overall, it conjured images of horses. (?) There was a hint of citrus to the flavor which held thorough, dry bitterness. Slight soapiness in the finish, like some shampoo ran into my mouth. Creamy texture. I’ve only had a handful of bitters, but this may be one you should be comparing to.

Beer No 18 on the Wilsons’ Road Trip 2005. Cask at The Bell, Bath. Golden orange with citrus and peppery hop aroma. Long bitter finish. Very refreshing.

Bottle. Pours gold with an enormous frothy white jagged head. Lots of speckled foam lacing left behind once it dies down a bit. Nose is hoppy and flowery with some lighter spiceiness to it. Taste is spicy and hoppy. Lingering orange peel and unripened grapefruit. Mild earthiness as well. Body is bitter and creamy with moderate carbonation feel. There’s some chalky dryness to this as well. Finishes with more earthy and spicy hops, bittersweet malts, dried fruits and hints of lemon meringue.
