A Mes rate: Ramsgate beer fest. Fruity, malty sweet and drinkable but yet another bland and boring English bitter.

Cask, Cow and Plough, Stoughton. Amber with an off-white head. Aromas are sweet toffee malts with caramel, fruit and hops spices. Flavours are rich and malty. Sweet citrus with some zesty sourness. Nice toffee malts. Some sulphur notes. Dry towards the finish with grapefruit bitterness. A good beer in great condition.

Theobald Arms, Essex. Golden amber best bitter with the accent on the pale malt, but with a pleasant earthy and tangy hop balance which lingers in the finish. A sharp fruit at the front which becomes juicy orange. Decent.

Cask (Helsinki Beer Festival 2004) Good solid English bitter. Sweet malty aroma, with light fruits. Taste starts grainy/bready, but with a lovely bitter finish with no sharp edges. (5-3-8-3-13=3.2)

Cask (Pullman, Helsinki). Rich orange, healthy loose head. Grape and fruit aroma. Soft carbonation, refreshing palate. Plenty of retronasal esters. Slightly mushroomy taste, but plenty of barky bitterness without being muddy or dusty. Quite simple but very tasty. Finish quite bitter and quite long.

Cask conditioned at the Rising Sun, Frampton Cotterell, Gloucs 8/4/2007. Bronze best bitter with strong head. Fruit was to the forefront in both aroma and flavour, with a decent dry aftertaste. A pleasant enough beer.
