Commercial Description:
Caramel brown with a hint of chocolate, Brewhouse Brown melds four kinds of malt to create a satisfying, thirst-quenching brew. Best enjoyed at 55 degrees, this ale is slightly rich and roasty, yet leaves a dry finish. It is the perfect companion for a hearty meal.

12oz bottle from Brent, thanks man. Rating #228. Clear dark brown with a touch of red. The head was very light brown and hangs around for awhile, albeit very thin. Light toasted aroma a little sweetness as well. Flavor is a little sweet also, some toasted malts a little caramel, pretty good. (1056)

Bottle from Bhops. Thanks yet again. This beer pours a deep brown beer under a thick head. An initial sweet bubblegum nose (where did that come from ???) that goes directly to a caramel candy nose. Sweetness remains the dominant malt flavor and the beer finishes just dry enough. Mouth feel is smooth enough and the final taste is not too sweet. I don’t generally care much for brown ales, but this is just fine.

Hints of malt and roasted wood on the nose. Pours from a bottle a dark brown with two fingers head. Head doesn’t last long. Well balance, nothing strong either way. Malty with a touch of bitterness. Finishes up quick and clean. Overall a good drinkable brown ale.

Bottle from Kevin Scott, the man with the shmeckel. Pours a clear-ish brown color that collects a shade darker when not held to the light and sports only a semi-halo of suds atop. The nose was predominately malty yet subtle with nuances of caramel, toffee....and toffee. This is the nicest place. Flavors are hard to find though the body is thick enough to satisfy on that front....but the flavors are seriously missing. Maybe Im drinking this too cold, and with that I will revisit in 5 minutes...

Oops...2 hours later and here I am, coming back to the glass that’s been sitting out. Pretty much room temperature at this point. Bitterness is a lot stronger now and the hops lend some flavor as well...a bit roasty too...and now Im getting a little toffee notes coming through as well. Nothing too bad about this one but nothing to write home about either.

Pours a redish brown with minimal head that fades away to very spotty lace and a thin layer of bubbles across the top. Smells of malts, molasses, a bit of brown sugar. It has a slight astringency in the nose as well, which unfortunately does appear in the flavor as well. Has a hearty brown ale malt taste to it with a cloying sweetness. There is slight oxidation and astringency and sort of an off chemical flavor to it as well. The chemical taste really stays throughout the finish and into the aftertaste. I can’t say that this is my favorite Brown Ale. It’s got a nice mouthfeel, but that chemical thing that’s going on sort of kills it for me.

Sample at the Texas Beer & Brats tasting 10/11/2009. The beer is a clear brown color with a thin tan head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Toffee, caramel and malt in the nose. Medium, smooth body with flavors of sweet caramel malt that has roasty touches. Bits of hops at times too. The finish is sweet and malty and lingers a short while. Slightly above average overall.

Bottle shared by Dogbrick. Clearish brown pour with a medium tan head. Caramel malt aroma with some fruit and hop. Caramel malt flavor with some slight berry influence and a dry finish.
