Commercial Description:
Measuring between 10 and 11% ABV, depending on the year, this barleywine was Real Ale's first seasonal product. It is uncharacteristically smooth for this style of beer, as it is created with five different kinds of hops. It also displays a rich malt character, and the healthy portion of hops gives it a distinctive dry and balanced finish. Sisyphus Barleywine Style Ale, weighing in around 480 calories per 12 ounce serving, is not for the faint of heart. Makes a great nightcap!

Clear amber with no head. Sudued candi sugar malted milk aroma. Medium body with light carbonation. Decent pit fruit malt bomb flavors here, with a nice boozy bite to finish. 2007 bottling.

My first Barley Wine... First off it pours very thick almost like motor oil. At first I didn’t think it was going to have a head but it showed up a few seconds after pouring. Aroma hit me immediately with hints of Christmas spices, cinnamon, cardamom, & clove. Reddish brown in appearance and slightly cloudy. Flavor is rather a delicate balance of dried fruit and a hops bitterness. Overall it’s not my cup of tea, but it would be nice for the wintertime to help warm you up but not really that great in the Texas heat in August.

Bottle, label says 2007, from Kegs & Barrels in McKinney, TX. Pours a hazy dark amber with thick beige head that laced the glass. Aroma of sweet malt, floral and fruity. Flavor is sweet with some citris notes and alcohol with fresh hoppy bitter, this beer is simalar to the wort I just brewed. Palate is thick full body and medium carbonation. Overall, I enjoyed this beer. Very good, a great addition to this brewery. I actually drank it for a nightcap.

(bottle): Pours a light brown body. Had to work to get the head. Off-white color, good lacing, not very lasting. Somewhat lacing. Strong hoppy aromaj, sveetness. Some dustiness, some syrupyness. Some malts. Dusty sweet taste. Not as strong as a typical barley wine.

Many thanks to MaltOMeal!
’07 bottle pours opaque red-amber with a small white head that is soon gone. Nose is hop-strong with peach, grapefruit, some minor caramel, and an odd spicy note. Flavor is very sweet with fruit, caramel, and slight alcohol. Not as complex as I’d hoped.

Figured I’d audit my stock of 2007 Sisyphys and I was surprised that I hadn’t reviewed it. Poured into a pint glass. 1 finger head lasted about 3-5 minutes before dissipating. Left good lacing around the glass. Color is a deep amber -- similar to a pale ale. There was some sediment floating around in the glass. Aroma: I get Gummy bears. Floral, cotton candy. Becomes more citrusy as it warms up. Taste is very nice. The hops blend nicely with the sweetness of the malt to give a good balance. A little caramel in it. Moutfeel; nice silky mouthfeel. A nice bit of carbonation to lighten it up. Drinkability : Very easy drinking for a barleywine. The only defect I see in this beer is the strange sweetness in the aroma. Serving type: bottle
