Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 18, 2008 Courtesy of Ibrew2or3 and Degarth. Didn’t take great mental notes on this one, but what stuck out to me was the urine notes in the aroma, once someone said it, I couldn’t get it out of my head. Also some dark fruit and caramel, but really once you smell urine, you don’t smell much else. Thankfully I don’t know or ever want to know what urine tastes like, but I don’t think it carried over into the flavor. Odd beer, no sir, I don’t like it.
TURDFERGUSON (1244), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Jan 7, 2009 2007 Bottle from maltomeal. Thanks Bill! Pours a big bright orange with a small white head. Nose and flavor of caramel, sweet malts, toffee, mild hops. Very tasty and smooth. Alcohol well hidden. Like JCB said, this was a nice surprise after I had been reading some okay reviews about this lately. dkachur (1201), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jan 4, 2009 2007 12 ounce bottle courtesy of mar. Thanks! Pours a hazy orangish brown color with almost no head. Aroma of toffee, caramel and citrus hop notes. Taste is toffee, big earthy and citrus hops and a cheesy note. Medium bodied. Bhops (239), Dallas, Texas, USA Jan 3, 2009 bottle. Pours murky orange, smallish head. Aroma of dark fruit, malts, some alcohol. Nice flavor for a barleywine, with some spice and hop finish. Pretty good for texas! JCB (1189), Durham, North Carolina, USA Dec 30, 2008 Bottle shared by Turdferguson at the Carolina Crew tasting - thanks, Sam! What a nice aroma this one has: initially quite pungent but mellowing out into a malty and strongly nutty presence that lets you know this one has some age on it. Despite the age, it’s still got a fairly sharp hop presence (not unlike its Texas kin, DR 6). But most of the flavor is mellow and yeasty, like a really solid English barleywine. A nice surprise. caesar (2696), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Dec 29, 2008 Bottled, brought by a friend of NoiZe. Cloudy orange color, short off-white head. Aroma of hop, bit yeast, horseblanket. Bit yeasty bitter taste, sweet, bit sugar, slight sourish. Strange and unbalanced.
