SilkTork (3881), Rochester, Kent, England Jul 11, 2006 Bottle. Asda. I picked this up from Asda mainly because they were selling it off cheap. I wasn’t expecting it to taste good. I thought it was going to be another Federation (Dunston) thin, low quality nonsense. But - wow! - this is great stuff. Research shows that it’s brewed by Darwin, and is a variation of the brilliant Rolling Hitch. A bit of crystal malt and a sprinkling of Fuggles makes this a more traditionally English ale than the clearly American styled Hitch. Sweet, nutty, clean, and with those fragrant Amarillo hops. Stunning!
downender (1525), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England May 16, 2007 Bottle. Amber coloured with a slight, off-white head. Aroma of grassy hops and balancing fruity malt. Flavour was primarily of fruity malts with some citrus hops (and unfortunately a slightly metallic aftertaste) at the end. Not bad for 80p from ASDA. maeib (3958), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Feb 4, 2007 Bottled. An amber coloured beer with a short lived off white head. The aroma is malty but has an unpleasant farty meaty side to it. This meatines comes through in the taste too. There are fruity malty notes but they are outweighed by some unpleasant notes. Quite tinny too. Not very nice at all. leaparsons (3903), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Oct 17, 2006 Bottle. Amber brown with a small off-white head. Aromas are tea, caramel, spices, pear and sulphur. Flavours are sweet toffee malts, tea, some lemon. Quite malty. Decent sparkle. Pretty dry on finish. Some metal. Not bad for a themed beer.
johndoughty (1621), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England Sep 8, 2006 I was amazed to find that this is brewed by Darwin and a cousin of the lovely Rolling Hitch. In my opinion its avery poor cousin.Reasonable bronze appearance spoilt by a cardboard like taste and traces of tin. It tasted slihghtly stale. It was in the cut price section at ASDA but its still a ppor beer, or I grabbed abad bottle JonMoore (1549), Loughborough, Leicestershire, England Aug 18, 2006 Bottle. Amber coloured with a slim white head. Well balanced malt and hop aroma. Flavours are malts, caramel, some hops and citrus. Light to medium bodied. Very good.
