Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Nov 5, 2009 Bomber. Poured clear medium golden with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up earthy and caramel sweetness with a touch of smoke.. pine and orangey hoppage around.. a little detergent-like as it warmed up. The flavor found tart citrus juice on the tip of the tongue followed by semi-sweet caramel and pale malts.. more orangey bitterness and detergent surrounded.. finished with tacky, non-descript malts and citrus bitterness. Medium-ish bodied and slick across the palate.. sharp on the back-half, and it didn’t flow that well.. drinkable, but not that good. ben4321 (957), Rockville, Maryland, USA Oct 25, 2009 Location: 22 oz bottle from State Line, 10/25/09
Aroma: The aroma starts off with some citrus and pine hops, and a good amount of soapiness to the smell as well. It’s kind of a strange nose, it almost smells like lemon dish washing detergent.
Appearance: This one pours a hazy golden-orange color with a big fluffy white head and a good amount of lace.
Flavor: The flavor is quite citric as well, its got a nice amount of hop flavor to it with a mild malt backing.
Palate: This beer has a light-medium body, and a decent, though somewhat thin/watery mouthfell.
Overall Impression:
This is a solid beer. Something I enjoyed, but not something I would describe as special or exciting. It’s kind of a hoppy pale ale with a soap feel to it, but it is something you certainly enjoy.
tmoreau (527), Lombard, Illinois, USA Oct 4, 2009 Sampled at a Mead, Cider, and Beer Tasting for Binny’s Beverage Depot in Glen Ellyn, IL. Poured a hazy golden amber to my wine/sampler glass, with a diminishing, modest off white head and spotty lacing. The aroma was fruits, citrus and some malt sweetness. The flavor added to these an initial funkiness, a little tartness, subtle hop bitterness, and some dryness to the finish. Good and bold enough for an APA. General66 (167), Streator, Illinois, USA Sep 13, 2009 Bomber from Gentiles Wine Shop in Chicago shared with my brother-in-law. Pours a hazy orange color with a one finger width white frothy head that disappears quickly. The aroma consists of light hops, some citrus, light pine, and very light malt. The taste was very strange when the beer was cold. It consisted of light hops, malt, and a weird mineral water type of taste. The strange taste disappeared after warming up a bit though. There was also a stronger hop bite as the beer warmed also. Finished a bit bitter but smooth. Overall a decent APA. Let this one warm up a bit before drinking though! ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Sep 6, 2009 Bottle from lighthouse in wimington, nc. Hazy and bright amber pour. Frothy white head and drippy lace. Pine, caramel and floral aroma. Juicy citrus flavor with a decent malt backbone. michael-pollack (2603), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 20, 2009 22oz. Bottle: Aroma of hops, vegetables, pine, slight citrus, light oranges, and some malts. Poured amber/orange in color with a medium-sized, rocky, dense, off-white head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of tiny and small particles throughout. Flavor is lightly sweet, and light to medium bitter. Tastes of hops, citrus, slight vegetables, slight caramel, and light pine. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Hop and slight caramel malt finish. MrBunn (1521), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 16, 2009 Bottle. Pour is a dark amber with a small, but dense head. Aromas of grapefruit, pineapple and floral hops. Flavor is all that with a decent malt counterbalance and a bit of a soapy flavor throughout. This is pretty good, but comes off as a little too floral for me. I’d like a little more of a bitter bite. afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 16, 2009 22oz bottle shared by BeerGestapo, thanks Mike. Pours amber in color with a large fluffy head that leaves some nice lacing. Taking my first sniff I am greeted by an aroma of freshly zested grapefruit. But after inhaling deeply a scent of dishwashing liquid manifests itself. The flavor was nothing like the smell however. It was slightly oxidized with notes of overripe citrus, cardboard, floral, and a hint of banana. Though it smelled much better than it tasted it was still worthy of drinking. Maybe a fresher sample would prove to be tastier.
