BMan1113VR (2757), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Nov 2, 2009 Bottle. Pours with a black body and a mocha colored head that lasts for a little bit. Decent lace. Aroma of licorice, honey biscuit, chocolate, red licorice, and fudge. Light fruity esters. Taste is light coconut, fruit, licorice, and chocolate, roast. Finishes with a leathery smokiness. Feels a touch thin for the style, medium carbonation. Mocha and coffee been finish with a tinge of vanilla. Nice. mar (1740), Rowlett, Texas, USA Oct 30, 2009 black with a khaki head. chocolate, syrup, coffee, dark fruits and vanilla aromas. not bad on the palate with a flavor of coffee and roasted chocolate. mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 27, 2009 22 oz. bottler served in shaker- poured a solid black when held to a light source, no carbonation, aroma of a charred malt, blood, and evil (’bout time they made a brew), laced like water. Hits the mouth with a high-medium body, malt is burnt but has a coffee linger (interesting), middle retains more of the same, finish makes you ponder 2 minutes to midnight. Overall- not something to actively seek, but if one falls upon your lap, crack that puppy open and see what happens. Enough said. Swalden28 (1439), McKinney, Texas, USA Oct 25, 2009 Bottle from Kegs & Barrels in Plano, TX. Pours dark brown/black with thick tan head. Aroma of clean dark roast and baking chocolate. Flavor is exactly the same with a nice dark roasted bitter. Mouth feel is med-heavy body with high carbonation. Overall, not bad at all! beernovice39 (240), South Carolina, USA Oct 22, 2009 Ok this looks like a stout but the taste has this sweet sour chinese food thing going on...surprised and disappointed. Anyway will finish this bottle. oh6gdx (8798), Vasa, Finland Sep 27, 2009 Bottled. Pitch black colour, not much head. Aroma is mild sour wood, lots of black and red currant as well as some mild fruityness. Flavour is sour fruits, red currant, some mild burnt wood, toffee and dark dry fruits. Also some mild cocoa and roasted notes. The slight sourness is quite strange, but otherwise a decent brew. JohnnyJ (1282), Carlsbad, California, USA Aug 31, 2009 22 oz bottle. Dark brown pour, light tan head. Dark malts, caramel, cocoa, roasted coffee, notes of dark fruit, citrus, and a bit of sourness. I enjoyed the beer, but overall it’s pretty average. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 28, 2009 22oz bottle.
Pours dark brown, beige/mocha head.
Aroma is fruity, hints of lactose, some faint sourness and hints of dark fruits..
Flavor, some funky tartness with dark fruits, hints of nuts and lactose meshed with roasted malts.
Not sure what the intentions were here. Beer just had too much tartness and sourness going on to make it enjoyable for the style.
