Pretty much black with a nice brown head. Aroma is malts, chocolate, nutty. The flavor is burnt bitter malts, coffee and cocoa. Has a bitter dryish finish. Very nice stout. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 21, 2007 Not bad. But not great either. Kind of like a paint by number stout. Roastiness? Check. Smidge of chocolate? Check. Nothing new, but if you’re new to big stouts, this should definitely encourage you to drink more. Just no "WOW!" factor for me. bgburdman9 (823), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Pours a midnight black with a small tan head. Nose is bandaid, alcohol, plums and toffee. Taste is the same and add some soy sauce and anise. Medium body, high carbonation. Somewhat sour and soy aftertaste which sort of ruins it. Maybe a bottle going bad here..... MrBendo (1043), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA

The head diminished quite rapidly, with spare lacing. Aroma is burnt dark malts and coffee. Creamy texture, medium body, soft carbonation. A little bitter hops in there towards the finish. Flavor is moderately sweet. Heathen (795), Riverside, New Jersey, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Dec 1, 2006 Twenty-two ounce bottle. Poured a completely opaque black with a large dark tan head. I mean, I literally held it right up to a lamp and no light came through at all. It looked like the perfect beer for me. It had a semi-sweet chocolate and coffee aroma. Pretty much the same in flavor with a touch of vanilla and a slightly salty aftertaste. Very rich. It moved past the tongue and down the throat easily. It was somewhat sticky and just a little dry on the tongue. Just about a perfect beer. It was incredible.
