Commercial Description:
Nearly solid black in color, this is a full-flavored complex brew of roasted barley, sugar and a hint of honey. Once poured, the smoky aroma melds nicely with the creamy head for a beer drinking experience not for the timid. Brewed at Sudwerk for ReaperAle.

2005 bottle. Pours a deep black with a large foamy dark tan head that left lacing and did a nice job of sustaining. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, cappucino, vanilla and light smoke. Flavor of coffee, roasted malts, dark chocolate, toffee, a touch of vanilla and honey and a touch of smoke. A bit on the thin side but still very solid.

Bottle. Pitch black coloured with a consistant brown head. Roasted and malty. Notes of smoke, coffee and chocolate. Great carbonation level - feels round and creamy - great palete. Hoppy finish.

A dark brown, almost black beer with a red shine underneath a brown head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of roasted coffee, but also notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is a smooth coffee flavor with notes of roasted malt and bitter desert chocolate, combined with light notes of alcohol.

22oz bottle. Pours black with a coffeeish lightly brown head, which I don’t see as typical for most brews with this low level of alchol. The taste is similar to a sweet lighter stout, certainly a foreign stout, stronger then a typical stout but no match for a might imperial.

22 oz bottle, via dhlesq. Pours a clear dark black colored body under a generous two finger plus foamy brown head. Very good retention. Aroma is very roasty with some chocolate malt and a lactose overtone. Light chalky notes. Flavor is roasty and burnt malt dominated up front and finishes fairly sweet with light alcohol and some chalk. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and oily in texture with moderate, fizzy, but soft carbonation. Overall, this was enjoyable, even if it wasn’t overly stunning, it was definately solid and well made. We need more Foreign Stouts.

Thanks so much Janice and Joe! Gotta love your sis and bro in law then they do wanna give you a special gift, print out your beer list and try to find a beer you hadn’t had! Good Job!!! pitch black color, tan head. Chocolate coffee nose. A bit sour in taste, sweet milk chocolate that lasts medium long. A bit charcoal too. Nice one!

Bottle sampled with Beerded_one. Pours black with a one finger thick cola brown head. Aroma of roast, chocolate malts, and slight fruitiness. The flavor is chocolate, roast, slight fuit, and mild bitterness from hops. Good brew.
