Nice sweet chocolate aroma with hints of smoke. Has a sweet roasted, chocolate flavor. A smooth dry finish. Light to medium body. A nice beer eaglefan538 (2399), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 11, 2006 Poured a dark black color with a nice tan chocolate head. Watching the bubbles/head separate on this one was beautiful. The aroma was of chocolate and some coffee. The flavor was much of the same, chocolate most strong, but coffee and roasted malts underneath. This was a good one, nice silky and creamy mouthfeel. My favorite Reaper to-date. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 11, 2006 Bottle from Patrick (bindpmc) Thanks! Pours out black as night with a thick tan head. Taste is sweet, thin, yet easy to drink. Upon opening the immediate area is filled with roasted malts and hops pouring from the bottle. Nice little hop kick keeps you wanting a little more, and I found that my 22 oz bottle disappeared way too quickly. Nice beer, infact a damn nice sweet stout, wish I had bought this when I saw it in VA. bindpmc (88), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 6, 2006 Black pour with a big, brown, short-lived head. Faint lacing. Not as much punch in the nose as I would have thought, but what is there is good: mocha mostly, with a touch of raisins. A good overall flavor, with cocoa prominent, but dried cherry and a faint piney hop note in there as well. Aftertaste is a mix of sweet and acidic. Overall, an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, I’ve been drinking a lot of flavor-loaded Imperial Stouts lately, and this one is more sweet. And maybe even a little watery. Still worthy of a decent score, but not in the upper echelon for me. Pailhead (2606), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 5, 2006 Updated: Oct 23, 2006Bottle: Courtesy of DarkElf via trade. Aroma has lots of roasted coffee with moderate chocolate and light caramel. Pours a dark brown with no transparency and a huge tan head. Flavor starts rather chocolately with some mild coffee mixing in the middle. Coffee flavors fade and are overtake by a bitter chocolate and lightly acidic finish. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 3, 2006 Roasted malts/molasses/dried fruits/raisins/ smoke/charred wood...but underneath it al a distracting lactic sourness (just a hint) that made me deduct points from this one slighlty. Slightly thin in palate as well. Cornfield (4972), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jun 3, 2006 At a small gathering of The LoSBD: Pours nearly a solid black but has merely a small fizzy head when poured in a non-aggressive manner. The faint aroma is coffee, roasted malts, and a touch of dark dried fruits. Nice and creamy mouthfeel. The flavor is roasted barley, old coffee, bitter nuts, and dried fruits. This had an oddly sour/bitter finish that kept me from rating it higher.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 3, 2006 I asked <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/View-User-18266.htm&g to pick me up some Reaper Ales on his recent trip out to CA and this one didn’t let me down. Poured black with mahogany highlights, topped with a thin, oily ring (it was poured gently, tho’). Coffee & prune aromas are slight yet enticing. Juicy mouthfeel with a prickly finish. Hefty malt flavor of roasty grains, bitter coffee and raisin. As pointed out by Gene, this starts solid but warms to mediocrity.
