| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 19, 2005 Pours black with ruby edges and a medium, dark tan head. A lot of carbonation. The aroma is great, consisting of big roast malt and dark chocolate, plus molasses. The flavor is roasty malty and chocoffy up front, giving way to molasses and a semi-dry finish with slight rauch and hops. This one actually seemed to lose mouthfeel as it warmed, and get thinner on the palate. Not a world class stout but a very good one. I plan on doing some side by sides with this one. Reaper Ales beers have impressed me thus far. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 4, 2005 Really good stout. Very dark. Poured creamy-thick. Bittersweet coffee taste with some chocolate and honey/toffee flavor. While it poured thick, it was unusually light-feeling in my mouth and had a smooth, dry finish, almost like a dry/Irish stout. Definitely will have another. Rastacouere (5555), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 28, 2005 Straight black, average sized brown head. Grasping dark malt nose, chocolatey, roasty and containing pleasant dark fruit nuances (blackberries). Sweet overall, nutty, oaty and cigary smoky hints. Rather interesting hop aromas that do not bring on much bitterness, but a balancing dryness. No acidity to speak of. Long and soft mouth presence, medium-full bodied, gentle carbonation. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 24, 2005 Updated: Sep 11, 2008Jet black with an espresso head. Aroma of roasted malt and some coffee notes. Tastes very much like a milk stout--sweet and caramely with some coffee, chicory, and toffee, flavors. Thick, sweet, and mouth-coating with little alcohol quality and a quick but nice finish. AlchemistZ (493), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 21, 2005 Opaque black with a well-sustained brown head. Very complex aroma...nice sweetness, roast, milk and toast, dark fruit, espresso and treacle. Flavor contains dark fruit (black cherry), subtle roast, great balancing and enveloping sweetness, malted milk and black treacle. Very complex and flavorful stout. Technically perfect, but there is something missing. Usually when I taste a beer it comes across as a tapestry of flavor and then I try to pick out the individual flavor and aroma elements. This stout layed itself out as the individual complexities without ever coming together as one. I feel like this was overthought and/or reverse engineered by the brewer. But it is very good. roder60 (1023), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 9, 2005 Poured from a bomber an opaque dark black color with the perfect amount of foamy light brown head that stays forever. Looks absolutely wonderful. Aroma is delicious of sweet dark chocolate, roasted barley, and chocolate milkshake. Very very creamy taste on the palate, dry, bittersweet, with a very dry, almost hoppy finish. Overall, I found this to be a very enjoyable stout. BückDich (4851), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 6, 2005 Dark black color, thick tan head, nose of cherry, vanilla, dry roasted barley and loads of chocolate malt. Dry creamy flavor with light oak notes and moderate hoppiness. Finishes clean and balanced, light tobacco and vegetal notes. Creamy mouthfeel, nice and roasty but not too astringent. I liked this one. IndianaRed (1557), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 5, 2005 Bottle Pours a very dark, black with a modest light tan head and very nice lacing. Mostly very dark roasted and burnt malts notes, some espresso, molasses and chocolate malts as well.
Flavor was smokey and char coaly up front, with some of those dark roasted chocolate hits as well. Palate was smooth and a bit thin and the carbonation was appropriately soft.
A smoky bitter trailer. Thanks to Buch Dich for sharing this one.
