Commercial Description:
Nearly solid black in color, this is a full-flavored complex brew of roasted barley, sugar and a hint of honey. Once poured, the smoky aroma melds nicely with the creamy head for a beer drinking experience not for the timid. Brewed at Sudwerk for ReaperAle.

Poured an opaque black color with a medium sized tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla, sweet caramel malts, chocolate, roast, and nuts. Taste of sweet chocolate, roast, and a light alcohol finish. This was somewhat watery, but not too bad.

22 oz bottle. Had this following a Dragonstooth and a Left Hand Impy. At first, it seemed thin ad strange tasting, but working my way through half of a bottle it gained character. Roasty coffee-dark chocolate aroma. Flavor is carmel malts with a slight unsweetened chocolate flavor and bitterness. If consumed on is own, a satisfying and decent stout.

Pours opaque black. Medium sized light brown head, slight linger. Cocoa and roast malt aromas. Sweet nose, followed by cocoa and roast malt flavors, with a noticable hop counterpoint. A coffee flavor and astringency creeps in, again complemented by the hops. Hops and roast malt create a slightly banana ester and chocolate finish.

Bottle. Creamy cappacino colored head, oily thick black color. Very roasty aroma, with heavy tones of chocolate and coffee. Taste is like bittersweet chocolate with coffee nibs. Hops come out in the finish - slightly bitter and sour. Mouth feel is very crisp and fresh.

Large brown head, good retention and fair lace. Big ole black brew. Fat, roasty nose with a bit of licorice. Med/full body, creamy and chewy with a mild tangyness. Roast, coffee, chocolate and some buttery toffee notes with a hint of nuttiness. Finish is almost dry, fruity and chocolatey. Thanks to SDbruboy for the trade!

Eclipse black color. Large sized tan foamy head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee beans and roasted malts. A medium bodied stout. Malts are chocolate and roasty malts. Slightly spicy hops, a touch grapefruit. Nice balance between sweet and roasty. A pretty decent stout, but there is a touch of sourness at the very end that is a little disconcerting. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

bottle 3/14/05. Pours a deep deep dark black with a full tan head. Mocha smells as well as soy sauce aromas. Kind of reminds me of a chocolate bock or stout (Brooklyn). Roasted malts full bodied and absolutley wonderful overall balance. Didn’t expect much out of this beer but i’ve been pleasently surprised.
