Like a strong coffee without the jitters. Good stuff. Thanks to SDalkoholic for sending this my way. Sven (229), Lancaster, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 30, 2004 Almost black in colour with an ample tan head. Little carbonation. Strong roasty aroma. Thick, rich flavor of coffee, chocolate, tar and roasted malt. Seems light in alcohol. Full, complex mouthfeel with a pleasant aftertaste. bluemeow76 (693), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 27, 2004 This bottle is wicked cool ! Pours a beautiful black with a medium light brown head. Good lacing. Nice coffee aroma, a bit bitter in the taste. Fairly average overall. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 26, 2004 Fantastic Stout. Poured a faded ebony with an ample head which quickly receded to nickel thickness. Excellent burnt choclate aroma. Great balance of the roasted coffee and bitter tastes. Very nice mouthfeel. I’d pay for this again. jstu9 (402), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Sep 26, 2004 I had this at the Great Arizona Beer Festival in Phoenix. This was the best beer I had that day. A dark, rich very flavorful stout. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 24, 2004 Deep brown with a dark brown head, quite a good look for a stout, attractive. Big time dry roasted malts and toast in the nose, aggressive burnt chocolate and some coffee. A good aroma, but a little off on the burnt chocolate, a little veggie-like perhaps. The initial flavor when it touches the lips is this same off character: smoky lettuce, some milk as well. The flavor then turns to a dry smoked malt profile... fairly tasty but lacking depth. A meaty, steak-like liquid smoke flavor, worchestier sauce perhaps, but nothing deeper... tasty but simple. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 22, 2004 Bottle. Pours ebony with a small tan head that diminishes but leaves good lacing. Aroma is malty - like malted milk balls malty - sweet, milky with hints of chocolate and herby hops. Flavor is smokey, roasty sweet with a mild mellowness and a lingering bitter finish. Body is rich and smooth, with creamy carbonation. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 26, 2004 Opaque black with a minmal tan colored head.
Roast malt and chocolate in the aroma. Rich complex flavor follows the aroma profile. Good body and finish.
Good job with a brew that’s somewhere in between a strong Stout and an Imperial.
