Commercial Description:
Nearly solid black in color, this is a full-flavored complex brew of roasted barley, sugar and a hint of honey. Once poured, the smoky aroma melds nicely with the creamy head for a beer drinking experience not for the timid. Brewed at Sudwerk for ReaperAle.

22oz Bomber - Johns Market - Portland, OR
Aroma – Big huge deep dark malt aroma with chocolate and coffee in the nose
Appearance – This was a deep black color, clear and a thin dark head
Flavor – The beer was rich with flavor and a deep malty background and very nice spices and other flavors. Sweet and rich this was a great flavors brew.
Palate – The beer hit your tounge with a rich deep dark chcolate like taste and texture. Intresting and great to drink with a dry sweet finish
Overall –This was a great beer to hold on to for a while so it settled down. Lots of yeast at the end but this was a great beer with some sweet and rich flavors. This is not your average beer drinkers beer. This will puut hair on your toe nails.

Bottle: Pours jet black with a small tan head that is quickly gone. Nose is mild of roasted tones, coffee, and light chocolate. Tastes rich with roast and coffee. The bittersweet chocolate acts as a nice balancing act with a hint of smokiness in the finish. Good, but not great.

I cant bring myself to give anything a perfect score... but Reapers Mortality Stout is as close as I’ve come! as a Stout lover, only Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout comes close to the phenomenal balance of chocolate smokiness and smooth drinkability found in this brew. UPDATE: My previous rating was for the Reaper Mortality Stout brewed in the Green Flash facility. The new edition of Reaper brewed by Sudwerk is a very sour Stout and my overall score would probably be more like 2.5. I dont know if its the water or if they changed the formula, but the sourness is offensive!
