Commercial Description:
Nearly solid black in color, this is a full-flavored complex brew of roasted barley, sugar and a hint of honey. Once poured, the smoky aroma melds nicely with the creamy head for a beer drinking experience not for the timid. Brewed at Sudwerk for ReaperAle.

Twenty-two ounce bottle. Poured a completely opaque black with a large dark tan head. I mean, I literally held it right up to a lamp and no light came through at all. It looked like the perfect beer for me. It had a semi-sweet chocolate and coffee aroma. Pretty much the same in flavor with a touch of vanilla and a slightly salty aftertaste. Very rich. It moved past the tongue and down the throat easily. It was somewhat sticky and just a little dry on the tongue. Just about a perfect beer. It was incredible.

This one IS Black. Has a average, tan, foamy head. Smells strongly of smoked chocolate and some notes of raisin. Great aroma, anticipation is building so quick, dying for a taste. Ahh, very heavy body. Roasted flavor, chocolate, toffee-like. Great brew.

I had this at the Great Arizona Beer Festival in Phoenix. This was the best beer I had that day. A dark, rich very flavorful stout.

22 ounce bottle purchased at Bevmo! in Sacramento/Natomas. Lightly sweet chocolate aroma with plenty of coffee present in the nose as well. I am not sure if this is supposed to be a coffee stout or not, but it smells like mocha. Quite appealing. Opaque dark brown color with a dark tannish head that is rather large, which leaves nice lacing. Sweet, chocolate-like maltiness to start. Turns more roasted and rather rich in the middle with more dark chocolate flavors. Some coffee-bean roastiness comes through later on in the flavor and makes this a very very pleasant stout. There is a lingering malt sweetness which keeps me coming back for more. As a fan of beers/stouts on the sweeter side(Mephistophiles), I am a big big fan of this stuff!

Great beer but not that intimidating in the mouth. Actually very light compared to a Baltic Porter or an Imperial Stout like Avery or McKenzie. Creamy indeed but... PRICEY in NJ. I paid 13.99 and OK I admit it, I paid it again for a second one after I tried it but hey! Can’t we get a little break on the price?

22 oz. bomber. Pours opaque and densely black, ivory rings of lace coat the glass. Ripe vinuous hops, chocolate, vanilla and coffee in the nose. Tingly carbonation hits the tongue initially, but mellows to become soft and somewhat creamy and slick. This is one of the sweeter Imperials I have had, but it is balanced well and adds to the flavor nicely. Dark fruit flavors are particularly abundant, a bit of plum and a lot of raspberry, balanced my a mild amount of bittersweet chocolate. I think one could easily mistake this for a (insert fruit flavor here...probably raspberry) Imperial Stout. Has a crisp hoppy finish - the bitterness cuts right through the sweetness. Alcohol is hardly detectable in the flavor but warms the soul. Oh yeah. Delicious stuff, and nicely balanced.

Deep completely opaque black. Tiny hint of brown at edge, tan head with lace. Aroma of dark coffee, and deep dark, sweet chocoate, hints of green apple, molasses, Thick body with decent carbonation. Taste mirrors the aroma. Stars crisp fresh green apple, very evident malt base, develops into bitter chocolate. Finishes with the mild clean bitterness of iced coffee. Bitterness lasts at back of tongue, and sweetness on tip of tongue. Great balance of biter, crisp and sweet,
