Carbonation is soft and slightly prickly, and the silky mouthfeel helps with hoppy bitter amber slide down easily. This brew is a lot more bitter than a traditional red. A slight toffee sweetness lays on the middle of the tongue at the end, acting to keep the resiny hop finish in check. If I closed my eyes, I would think I was drinking a hoppy English IPA. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

An interesting sort of cherry juice red or diluted blood color just as advertised. That’s interesting. The head is a dark beige with moderate lacing and clumps of lasting foam. Aroma is strongly C-hoppy with loads of caramel but also some dry graininess. Great body is mildly effy, tingly, but full and soft. The finish comes on in the thick of things, lasting long after the swallow with resinous and sticky hops, lightly unctuous. Some lingering flavor that’s somewhat medicinal and nagging like a cough drop. anaheim1983 (111), Anaheim, California, USA

Color was a reddish amber with medium frothy head. Aroma was complex hops with a tone of citrus. The flavor and finish was strong as the aroma and the finish was most excellent and lingering. this was one of my favorites every Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA

Well, nose was much better then I thought. Good hop character, some grapefruit. Good hops in the taste, floral sits in my nose. oily after taste, in a good way. Much better then my beer guy said, either that, or I have not had a hoppy ale in a while. Nice surprise. Nate (2569), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Dec 14, 2005 From bomber. Has a nice caramel malt sweetness to it, tempered with a fresh floral hoppy nose. Lacks the piquant resiny oils of a hugely hopped ale, like of the Stone ilk, but it’s fruity-floral notes are just enough to put it above the average amber in aroma. Medium reddish-brown, quite hazy, with light-tan lacing foamy egg-white head. Has a medium body, a bit thicker than watery, with medium carbonation. No carbonic burn. Starts with good caramel maltiness, just enough sweetness to keep it interesting and a light acidity. Clean and fresh, a bit of toast. Must be pretty fresh, as the hops roll in to impart a nice fruity-floral kick and tamper the sweetness. The finish comes in with just a right amount of bitterness to clean off the tongue and leave you with a nice crisp end. Clean, with a mellow sweet-resin after. I really enjoyed this amber.
