| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Nov 27, 2004 I am disappointed with this brew. A lot of quality reds are coming from the west coast (mad river being my favorite) but this falls flat IMO. Sour apple aroma. Red/ruddy amber in color. Slight head with no lacing. Prickly sweet flavor with sour mash malt aftertaste. Some hoppy spice in the flavor, but not enough to redeem this brew. Thanks to Dark Elf for the sample. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 5, 2004 Thanks to SDalkoholic for this one. Pours a huge freakin’ head (read ’heed’), like the kid in "So I Married An Axe Murderer." Sweeter aftertaste than most red ales I’ve had, and that is why I rate it high. A very enjoyable drink, and a kick fanny bottle. Grab one of these if you have the chance... NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 5, 2004 Bottle. Strong caramel, sweetness in the aroma. Pours murky brown with a thin head. Sweet and Sour taste to it. Sour coming in the end and the sweetness loaded in the front in the form of malts. Decent mouth feel. Sven (229), Lancaster, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 29, 2004 Deep reddish-copper colour below a dense, rocky, tan coloured head. Moderate malt aroma with some caramel and toffee notes. Little hop aroma. Moderate caramel malt flavor and sweetness with a nice light taste of roasted grain giving off the slightest smoked aftertaste. No hop flavor with an average hop bitterness. Medium-dry finish. A very well made session beer. jgb9348 (2499), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Oct 28, 2004 Rich amber coloured body with a strong ruby highlight & a thin tan head. Aroma of fresh Northwest hops, caramel, malt and a tiny amount of nuts. Medium-bodied; Pungent hoppiness up front fading quickly to a mild hoppiness with little else. Aftertaste very clean-like a tiny amount of malt in your mouth, and that’s it! Overall, a decent beer. Not impressive, but worth trying on the East Coast! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased at Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 09-August-2004. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 1, 2004 Bottle. Pours dark reddish-amber with a large off-white head that diminishes mostly. Aroma is predominantly malty, sweet and biscuity, kinda like sugar cookies, with a faint hint of floral hops. Flavor is also sweet upfront, with a sort of metallic hoppiness and a lingering astringent mouthfeel. Medium body and gentle carbonation. Servicable ale, but not great. jstu9 (402), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
