Nose is sweet douglas fur floral hoppiness and a bit of alcohol. Flavor is a nice caramel malt sweetness with overly piney hops. Not a very good melding. Enjoyable enough to drink, and great label, with a decent pricepoint. But still just not an outstanding brew. jstraw (775), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Bottle: Aroma of sugary malts, slight toasting, light hops, slight fruit, light resin, and a touch of caramel. Poured deep amber/deep orange/copper in color with a medium to large-sized, rocky, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Very sparkling. Full of tiny, and many medium-sized particles throughout. Good lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and light to medium bitter. Tastes of malts, light hops, dark bread, slight caramel, slight tea, and a little toasting. Medium body. Lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Malty, light hops, and resin finish is lightly dry. ghawener (964), San Salvador, El Salvador

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 20, 2009 Pours a surprisgly opaque brownish red with some small bubbles. Nose shows some grapefruit, earth, caramel, alcohol, light astringency. Flavor is kinda weird, especially for the style. It starts kinda sweet and then turns to a watery bitterness with no character at all. Meh all the way. nearbeer (1864), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 2, 2009 22 oz. Clear deep copper with a lasting quarter inch of foam. Nice aroma of chocolate, caramel, and toasted nut. Flavor is the same with a bit too much bitter coffee, citrus and leafy hop on the finish. Light-medium body is dry, lightly carbonated, and a little too watery. GG (1663), NorCal, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 22, 2009 Might just be my favorite amber ale. Not sure on that, but this beer is really tasty. It does not conform to the usual guidelines of an amber ale. Instead it bends and contorts the style and it’s pretty successful IMO. The aroma has various notes of light roasted malts, maple syrup/brown sugar, apricots, with a bit of plum and spices. Seemed very earthy to me. Flavor has a nice citrusy hop character, apple juice, toffee malts and a solid floral finish. The beer seemed to take me places a regular amber just doesn’t normally take you. Drakes Expedition did the same thing. Get this one if you can.
