Complex aroma, nutty, chocolate roast malts, little to no hops.
A smooth creamy palate delivers the same flavors expected from the aroma.
Surprisingly good.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 5, 2008 From bottle : Pours very dark black, with carbonation bubbles sticking to the bottom of the glass. A light brown head forms, the slowy fades in the following minutes. A big roasted hoppy nose, with some coffee and chocolate notes. Taste is bland chocolate, figs, some alcohol, and expresso. Medium body, with a smooth feel. Pretty nice little brew without a doubt. slang (399), Columbia, South Carolina, USA

Pours looking amazing!; a deep dark porter w/ a good nose (fuck, maybe great, my allergies are bad). Thick w/ a warming bitter choc., slightly roast/coffee finish. Sooo smooth. This beer really was superb & I’ll def. be looking forward to this one next winter! Oh & like $7 for a sixer... shendrix (478), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 27, 2008 This brew pours beautifully. A deep black with a thick, well-laced head, the nose is of dark fruits and molasses. The flavor is the perfect balance of warming alcohol set against unsweetened chocolate, coffee, molasses, and figs. Very, very nice. GG (1640), NorCal, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 26, 2008 Not sure who sent this to me (maybe Immy), so I’m not exactly sure but thank you!! Very nice beer. I’m also not clear as to the bottling date of this beer. Doesn’t matter at this point, since all the ’04 and beyond go here anyways.
The beer pours out a thick black hue with a resulting three finger thick, creamy tan head. The aroma is coffe, prunes, all-spice and smoke that gently faded into a very nice chocolate profile. Flavors are definitely drinker-friendly with clear coffee and chocolate notes and suprisingly a touch earthy/woody. The flavor reminded me slightly of eating a high quality chocolate candy. A really nice beer. bleeng (597), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 16, 2008 12 oz bottle thanks to unclemattie. Black, thick pour with a thick, tan head. Chocolate, malty, oatmeal nose. Taste is sweet, chocolate, caramely. Nice smooth, full mouth. Good beer and the alcohol is well hidden. Cryotek (206), Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 4, 2008 Black with reddish dark brown around the sides and in thinner areas where hit by light. Nice oatty scent, roasty malt, expresso, and chocolate. The roasty flavors even come out stronger in the taste. Very toasted barely, roasted chocolate, and burned coffee. This was not my first beer of the day, so maybe my senses were dulled, but i did not notice the alc%, and thought the beer went down pretty smooth with a dry roasted finish. A very nice porter. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 21, 2008 Winter 2007 edition. The body appears black in the glass, showing only hints of mahogany at the edges when backlit. A small, bubbly, light tan head leaves thick honeycomb lacing on the glass. A swirl reveals a less than substantial viscosity, hinting at a less than stellar mouthfeel. The aroma is roasted barley all the way, with a good deal of oatmeal, faint espresso, baker’s chocolate, and light soy sauce. The flavor is essentially the same, with roast coming through really strong. Coffee and scorched barley are the heavy hitters, while a slightly salty soy component comes through with the bitter chocolate on the back end. Medium bodied at best, as the appearance hinted, the brew is smooth and creamy, but lacking enough substance to support the 7.5% ABV. Finishes long, roasty, and bitter. Overall, this a pretty nice brew, but it’s nothing to write home about.
