Attempted drinking on 8/10/07 Not a gusher, thankfully, as the infection hasn’t completely run its course, and I chilled the beer down very low before opening, but it certainly isn’t far from completely gone. Huge, bacteria-induced head, with chunks on the bottom of the bottle and a dark brown-black body with magenta highlights on the edges. Some remnants of chewy oats and fudge, lightly sweet, are still noteable, but it’s mostly drowned out by a huge excess of phenols (black pepper, some medicine) and dark fruit esters. The increased attenuation from the infection has sapped most of the sweetness, over-exposing the dark malts, which give too much dryness/astringency to the nose now. Some higher alcohol work their way in to the nose as well. Not much of a drinking experience, with a pretty close approximation of the nose, but with added dirty elements and a stronger phenolic (HEAVY black pepper) presence. Some cola and light chocolate are all that remains. Intensely carbonated from infection. Kind of exciting, though, as I havent opened an infected bottle in a long time. porterhouse (1161), Alna, Maine, USA

Smooth and chocolatey...Pours dark brown with some ruby highlights. Three fingers of sturdy biege head. Aroma mostly is milk chocolate and hints of coffee. Some rings of lacing but rather sparse. Mouthfeel medium-full, quite smooth and lightly oily. Flavor is big smooth chocolate and hints of coffee. Hints of grassiness, esp. towards finish. Pretty solid porter with a nice mouthfeel. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 20, 2007 Updated: Nov 30, 2007surprisingly tasty. More like a stout than a ’double porter’, as proclaimed, exhibits deep smokiness and a chocolate qualities, little to no hops except in the finish. Oatmeal helps with head retention, adds some body. Really not bad.
After aging one bottle for a year, it poured with a rather ridiculous beige head and had a slightly sour oatmeal chocolate cookie nose. Very firm roastiness on the palate, slight tobacco finish. Alldaydrinker (558), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA

Aroma of some metallic hop notes, roasty, and dark fruit. Initial taste is hop character with background of chocolate. Finishing with bitter hops. Ungstrup (15371), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 5, 2007 Bottled. A hazy dark brown beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma is sweet with a light touch of acidity and notes of herbs and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet and acidic and strong notes of herbs combined with light notes of alcohol and metal, leading to a dry roasted finish. The alcohol bites lightly in the tongue. | 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 5, 2007 Dark brown color; the head disappears quite quickly. The aroma shows also some rotten apple. Caramel/malt taste, still with the fruitness from an overripe apple. Funky (read Papsø below). Papsoe (15103), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Hazy, dark brown with a tint of orange and a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and vitamins - and then a distinct tartness. Medium body with sweet, roasted malt and then the sourness reappears. Clearly infected - sad. 030707 Dorwart (1825), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 15, 2007 Thanks to TBC2 for this one. I am unsure of the year but I see some other rating from members who received a bottle also. Thin head with minimal carbonation. Dissipates quickly. Strange aroma. Rootbeer extract, salami, liverwurst, (definately liverwurst) and some mild coffee. Color is a very dark brownish black. Lively in the mouth. I guess the carbonation was jusy laying in wait. Dark chocolate, bitter coffee, mild sweetness with a bit more of some type of cured meat. Plenty of roastness also. Dry and salty finish with a lingering roastyness and dryness. Decent brew.
