Bottle from TheBeerCellar2, thanks! Black with big head. Chocolate and light roasted malt aroma. Quite the tasty porter...coffee, chocolate, plenty of roasted malt. Not too heavy, but enough flavor to make it stand out. Quite smooth and creamy. Slightly bitter chocolate comes through more than anything else. Definitely enjoyable.

Pours a murky unfiltered black with a small beige head. Aroma of oatmeal and baking chocolate. Taste is a dry chocolaty flavor with hints of oatmeal and vitamin tablets. Not bad, but nothing special here.

Oatmeal nose and bacon nose on this murky dark brown pour. Very smoky bacon body but no detectable chocolate. Thanks to TheBeerCellar2 for this trade extra!

12-oz. Thanks, GoldTwins! Pours deep opaque black with a thick tan head that falls to nothing momentarily. Actually looks grainy and ebony and more mixed-malty on the pour, but in the glass it’s obsidian. A little vinous and even oaky in the nose, (?) but that’s a very faint note--there’s just a tiny hint of sharpness there that’s interesting and unexpected. Nice full body with tangible carb and forward flavors. There’s full-flavored breadiness in the mid-palate. This is tasty stuff. Thanks again, Larry!

My thanks to Brewfiend for sharing. Pretty good stuff. Light smoke in the aroma, but the predominant aroma is bacon. Flavor has bacon as well, along with light malt and just a hint of coffee. I didn’t think the abv was as high as it is, so the alcohol is well hidden.

12 oz bottle

Thanks to the Atlanta crew for sending this in a recent trade. It looked to be interesting and turned out to be worthwhile. My only complaint is that upon opening it a nice chunk of the bottle broke off along with the cap. That might not have been a designed feature (and yet another reason you should never drink directly out of a bottle)

Aroma / Appearance - The deep brown body swallowed most light leaving only a fraction to escape. The sand colored head, a half finger in height upon pouring, soon cascaded down into the body leaving behind nothing but little bubbles of foam. The scent of hot chocolate stirred by a cinnamon stick definitely reminded me of a cool winter’s evening by the fireplace. Lukewarm oatmeal, iced coffee and sourdough bread complete the experience. Overall it is pleasant but lacks anything to raise it to the next level.

Flavor / Palate - If you had given me this without telling me what it was, I might have mistaken it for Dr Pepper with a trace of malts. It quickly moves to something pleasant - hot chocolate with marshmellows that has cooled while sitting on the patio. The peppery aftertaste combines with vanilla and coffee flavors to offset the slight amount of carbonation at the end. It fills the throat before fading over the course of a few minutes. On the whole it makes for a reasonably nice winter sipping beer. There are several things I may reach for first but I wouldn’t be offended if you offered me one of these.

A 2006 12 oz bottle shared by brewfiend. Pours a dark brown brew witha thick slow dissolving tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma of burnt pork, oatmeal, chocolate and even spiced beef jerky. Taste is toasted barley malt, coffee, some spice and a touch of hazelnuts. Finish is light body, creamy and some fruit aftertaste.
