Kind of thin bodied, but really a problem here. Heavy on chocolate flavors, with just a bit of dryness at the end. Hank1980 (762), Athens, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 27, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours dark brown with cream head and plenty of lacing. Aroma of bitter chocolate, roasted malt, and oatmeal. Taste is also very roasted, with the oatmeal giving a smooth body and nice balance. Finish is bitter chocolate. Overall a very solid and enjoyable porter. DrHomolka (728), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 16, 2009 12oz bottle via KP. Pours a normal porter color with a small off-white head. Aroma shows significant chocolate, nice and round and full. The chocolate in this beer is very appetizing, well done. Not much else going on in the aroma other than chocolate though I’m not complaining really. Flavor is not as good. Watery with a little malty chocolate flavor but way too thin. The nice chocolate present in the aroma just does not come through on the palate. This beer needs significant more body and flavor. This hides its alcohol well. Overall decent but somewhat disappointing. mreusch (730), Olathe, Kansas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2008 12oz. bottle, I’d guess 2007 vintage, with thanks to shp555 for the bonus. Pours a light brown, with a foamy two finger tan head, excellent retention and lacing. Aroma is dusty chocolate, coffee, molasses and light caramel. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate, heavily roasted malts, and coffee. A decent porter, but the bitterness is almost chalky which starts to work against it - found the finish to be quite the opposite of the description. Thanks again Steve! | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 23, 2008 12 oz. bottle. 2008 vintage. Black pour with a thin tan head. Some lacing present. Aroma of oats, chocolate, and a bit of hops. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Flavor is a nice treat. Roasted malt, chocolate, coffee notes blend together nicely. Slightly charred, bitter finish. hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 22, 2008 2007 bottle (winter brew) by way of thebeersommelier (or whatever moniker he is going by these days!)
pours medium to dark brown with brick-ish red hues and a small sandy white head. horizontal trails of lace show up on the glass.
surprisingly musty aroma (i am finding this more with old/aged porters with coffee) and sourness lurk under fudgey chocolate, sour cream, stick-like woodiness and spice... odd but not off putting.
a pleasant sourness lies under flavors of chocolate, faint ashy char, caramel cheesecake with graham cracker crust, spent coffee and a dry mildly bitter finish with lots of spice. coffee sticks around for the aftertaste and is joined by some of that char. medium body. soft creamy carbonation makes the mouth feel silky and velvety.

Big roast, coffee, and chocolate aroma. Very smooth porter with a nice dryness on the tongue. Alot of chocolate in there and some smoke as well, Easy drinking for almost 8 percent. A slight sourness at the end of the swallow. Very nice beer. BustedFlat (553), Edina, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Dec 3, 2008 Updated: Dec 23, 2008Sampled at the Great Decatur Beer Tasting Festival in Georgia on 10/18/08. Black with a big tan head. Aroma of oatmeal and coffee. Maybe a good breakfast beer. Taste was sweet malt, oatmeal and dark chocolate with a hint of oakiness to it. Definitely one of my favorites at the festival.
RE-RATE FROM A BOTTLE ON 12/20. Roast malt aroma. Black with a tan head. Taste was roastier than at the festival with oats, cocoa and coffee. Some bitterness.
