Bottle. Pours very dark brown with a medium tanned head. There’s not much of a presence of roast with more chocolately notes and flavour, with sour cherries cutting through as well. Surprisingly thin for a porter and it does finish on a low with a touch too much sourness. Not bad but there’s plenty of better porters readily available on the market.

Poured red / brown per expectations with trong cream head. Aromas were a little lacking with some hop aroma and a little roasted malt. None of the usual smoking flavours I was expecting. A little on the bland side. Quite thin with out and real depth. OK but have certainly had better beers in this style.

Strong malty dark chocolate aroma with burnt notes. Medium light brown head with large bubbles that dissipated quickly. Earthy roast malt flavour with strong black coffee and a dark chocolate bitter sweetness. Oily mouthfeel with a bitter finish. Not mindblowing, but a good beer nonetheless.

For a 6.5% beer I found this very thin on flavour with a lack of body. Slight hint of chocolate malt but insufficient for this style. Acrid flavour of black malt tended to dominate.

Cometh the hour, cometh the duck. I was gagging for a robust, warming ale on a cold winter’s night and this muscular Victorian porter hit the spot. It’s a bit crude and alcoholic but not far off being very good indeed. Beautiful plumage of darkest mahogany capped with a dollop of muddy cream. The intense aroma reeks of bitter dark chocolate, Cherry Ripe, coffee liqueur, with a faint whiff of barnyard. Ah... nice filling mouthfeel, creamy-smooth and soft as duck’s down. Thins in the swallow but I like it a lot. Surprisingly alcoholic for its strength (6.4%). This is the second beer of the night, which takes the edge off it but there’s still a fairly spiritous cut-through. Some sour cherries, spoiling milk and chocolate malt, but the dominant flavour is alcohol. Great at room temperature. (330ml bottle from Purvis Cellars, Melbourne)

Opaque very dark brown with a completely diminishing beige head. Aroma of roasted malt with maybe some chocolate. Intense coffee flavour and bitterness with some dried fruit notes. Thick texture and low carbonation. I found it to be quite tasty and drinkable without being exceptional.
