Pyobon (184), Sydney, Australia Feb 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy yellow amber with very little white head. The aroma is superb and complex: malty, spicy, esters, almost a grassy hoppiness and vanilla. The body is full and creamy, enhanced by the carbonation which is signficant, but not fizzy, giving a superb feel. The flavour is again full and complex and excellent. There is rich, somewhat sweet malt and a little caramel, beautifully balanced by some tangy fruity flavours and spicy and floral hoppy notes. (The fruitiness seemed more bitter orange than apricots to me.) The finish is crisp with just the right bitterness and some rich lingering tastes. A truly excellent beer.
gam (679), brisbane, Australia Nov 2, 2008 Thin head back to some lace cover, with fine sediment in an orange to gold coloured pour with good carbonation.Aroma malty, honey liker, spicey, flavour bitter nice hop flavour, orange apricot, nutmeg, melon note nice going down.Finish bitter sweet dry. kearnsy (31), Melbourne, Australia Oct 30, 2008 Bought this one in a six pack sampler from the Red Hill Market. Poured murky light gold almost yellow colour. Excellent foamy white head (true to the label desrciption. High carbonation (true to style). Aromas were awesome - sweet esters, spices and under lying soft malts. Medium bodied, Palate was spice, then fruity esters followed by sweet malt. The high carbonation finished it with a dry lingering bitterness that rounded out the experience nicely. I was looking forward to every mouthful of this beer. Recommended if you can get your hands on it! Dredd (404), Ormond, Australia Oct 23, 2008 This beer shows the line seperating success and failure is very thin. Thankfully this is a success, but gets oh so close to allowing alcoholic heat to enter the mix. Aroma is estery and spicy, notes of banana and some apricot. Appearance is golden with a think white head. Flavour is slightly bready, apricot and malt sweetness upfront. On the finish there is a mix of licorice and alcohol heat alternating that makes you think it is all heat, but is juuuust restrained. The finish is quite long, a mix of bitterness and some dark sugar acridity. Chrism86 (129), Melbourne, Australia Aug 24, 2008 Pours a hazy deep gold, tending to amber with a substantial snow white head. (tad dark, compared to duvel and the like) Aromas of banana and spice dominate. Palate is rather mild, some lemon and banana fruit present with perhaps some crystal malt adding a degree of sweetened apricot, also some warming alcohol driven spice. Carbonation is lively, which gives impression of dry finish (as required by the style) All in all a very approachable beer, but seems to lack something... Lunkie (1020), Glen Iris, Australia May 31, 2008 Hop malt aroma with seet floral undertones. Murky yellow colour with fair head and lacing. Sweet malt hop flavour with spices. Fizzy palate.
