Commercial Description:
Bent Nail I.P.A. is a tribute to the hard-working contractors who make their living in Red Lodge. The I.P.A is high in alcohol and hop flavor. We use copious amounts of American cascade hops to give the IPA intense grapefruit and citrus aroma and flavor. Bronze medal winner – 2007 Great American Beer Festival.

Orange/bronze color, light white head and sticky lacing. Nose of citrus, pine and grapefruit. Clean and bright pale malt. Lots of dry hops. The flavor is hoppy, not too bitter though. Simcoe or amarillo, maybe centennial. The finish is clean and grassy, nice IPA. Easy drinking.

bottle. Solid IPA. pours a deep copper with little head. Great pine hop character from start to finish... medium body over the palate with some spice up front. Average bitter finish. Overall a very enjoyable IPA from a small brewery... thanks to my Grandfather’s neighbor for giving me this bottle!

Resinous grapefruit with a bit of a pungent, cattiness and pine. Color is dark copper with a thin-white head. Flavors similar to aroma, sweet with a good amount of hop flavor manifested as pine and a bit of citrus fruit of some sort. Flavor is hop-forward, but there is a lot of sweet caramel malt with some toasted bread. I like that the body isn’t too full,.. it’s a little thin but I think that’s a good thing in this beer. It’s flavorful but drinkable.

Draft at Foster & Logan’s in Red Lodge, MT on 7/17/07. Coppery amber body under a small off white head. Fresh hoppy aroma with pine and citrus predominating. Medium body, slightly resinous, and with a good overall mouthfeel. Substantial sweet malty base nicely balanced by grapefruity bitterness. Pretty nice IPA, drinkable, refreshing, invitng fresh hop aroma.

Sampled on draught and on Nitro at Sam’s Tap Room, next to the brewpub in Red Lodge, Montana. Pours a semi-clear caramel amber brew with a thick white head that quickly dissolves to a fine film. Aroma of citrus zest, sweet grapefruit, some roasted caramel with a touch of piney hops. Tast is quite hoppy, lightly carbonated, medium bodied with some flavors of caramel malt, grapefruit apricots and foral pine bitterness. Finish is light, grapefruity with a long lasting and lingering bitterness aftertaste. The nitro version is just as hoppy and citrusy as the draught version except much creamier and smooth texture.
