It was dark amber almost brown with a small slightly cream colored head. It has a roasty nose to it and has an almost chocolate-like porter taste to it. You can detect an almost sweet slight aftertaste to it. I am totally impressed with this beer I can’t wait to try the brewery’s other beers. LaChad (1375), San Francisco, California, USA

But it had a nice mix of malts and chocolate that I found appealing from start to finish. This would be a good 6-pack beer if I lived in Montana. Andrew196 (1091), Katy, Texas, USA

Nice malty flavor, subtle, bitter hop finish....not bad....no real complaints here. tomciccateri (514), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 1, 2007 On draught at Bogart’s in Red Lodge, Montana. Called a "pale ale" on the menu but pours an opaque brown with a white head. Soft mouthfeel, medium-bodied, with a very clean flavor dominated by the malt, subdued hops. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 8, 2007 Thanks to Skyview. Pours a nice dark auburn color. Very deep rich toffee like malt on the nose. Very thick with a good smokey roasted profile as well as some rich toffee, but not too spectacular, and lacking much balance. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 19, 2007 Sampled on draught and in bottles at Sam’s Tap Room, next to the brewpub in Red Lodge, Montana. Pours a cola caramel color brew with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of nutty brown malt, some apple and a touch of flowery hops. Taste is smooth and creamy, medium bodied with a smoked bready malt character. Palate has a slight dry flowery hop aftertaste that turns into a dry finish. Seems the on draught version has a little more flavor than the bottled version. Berley31 (198), New Brunswick, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 20, 2009 Bottle. Poured with a small, off-white head that diminished to a thin film. Body was clear with a dark reddish-brown color. Very nice aroma of roasted malt. Light on the palate, slightly creamy texture with soft carbonation. Nice flavor - lightly sweet with a roasted edge that helped the beer go down really smooth. Definitely one I could have again, if not necessarily something to write home about.
